I agree with NotaNetDeck; you need some devoted hate cards in your sideboard. Stony Silence comes to mind. As does Blind Obedience, Torpor Orb, and Hushwing Gryff. Spellskite is a great idea - good against Affinity, Twin, and a great number of other Modern staples. Pithing Needle and Phyrexian Revoker are traditional standbys, and more removal is almost necessary in the format. I like the transition, but Merfolk is basically a dead deck in Modern and Legacy, and switching from a fun rogue brew to a dying archetype is not generally ideal. How you use this information is up to you, but I am always willing to assist, should you need me!

Wise words thuzra. Also, hateindigital, if you don't want to change your gameplan too much, Kataki, War's Wage will screw an opponent with unusable lands over.

NotaNetDeck, thuzra, Scorprix thanks so much for the suggestions and guidance with the sideboard. Ive yet to play affinity but haven't had too many bad experience with other builds other than losses mainly due to my own errors piloting as I'm still getting comfortable with it. thanks so much for your support and suggestion hows the real sideboard look?

Well, the thing about the sideboard breaks down to deck philosophy - a particular control deck and a particular aggro deck might have similar bad matchups, but the main difference in boarding comes from what you do with your cards. Since you are a deck following the Control philosophy, and looking at this sideboard (based on no other information), I would assume you have the worst among worst Affinity matchups, a poor Twin matchup, and nothing else to worry about. You want some diversity in your options, and the more cards that do multiple things, the better. Look at this sideboard, for example. This is control first, combo second. Notice how almost every card does at least two or three things. And the two that don't are Rending Volley for Twin, and Spell Snare, which is sometimes very good. But it is niche enough to be a one-of in the side.

I cannot say what the 'correct' sideboard configuration is for this deck, but I can say that if one card holds four slots in the side, it should be the single best thing to side in in several matchups.

TL;DR - There are several thousand Magic cards legal in the Modern format (I believe some 8000 or 13000 or something...), so use them! Try not to restrict yourself to five!

Hey, this is a great deck, however, know that when Quicksilver Fountain leaves the battlefield, lands with flood counters keep their counters but cease to be islands since it is Quicksilver Fountain's ability that transforms lands with flood counters into islands.

iceclone thank you so much i appreciate your support! Though i believe you are incorrect... as the ruling states: Rulings12/1/2004 The land stays an Island until the flood counter is removed, even if Quicksilver Fountain leaves the battlefield.12/1/2004 The timestamp of the land-type-changing ability is set when the triggered ability resolves (so each one has a different timestamp).

my bad, I see it from gatherer now. I thought the counters would behave like Rimescale Dragon's ice counters which stay in play but do not affect the creature once the dragon leaves play because the ability belongs to the dragon.

Quite the interesting concept.

If you wanted to splash more colors, Dreamscape Artist would be a neat little option if you reworked the manabase a little. In fact, given that the majority of your hate is enchantments, Zur the Enchanter could be something to think about. Another tutor of sorts could be Knight of the Reliquary to get out some important lands.

I know that's basically an entire rework of the deck, but they seem like they have great synergistic potential with the core concept.

So today I got crushed by infect in modern. I am so tempted to bring Sea's Claim or Spreading Seas next week even though i'm playing Esper control....it hurt so bad having Go for the Throat in my opening hand only to see an Inkmoth Nexus turn 1, game 1.

I love your decks, but those condemns should be path to exile...:D

Thank you I found paths often help them to fix land even temporarily their mana issues which can break the lock.

Another VERY bad matchup for you would be Elves. For those of you who don't know, it's now a fully-fledged archetype capable of winning tourneys in Modern. You'd need an accelerated Wrath of God or similar to stand a chance... if you don't like that option, Suture Priest would be interesting...

Also, everyone please check out my Modern deck, Project Smallpox I could use and would really appreciate some help!

I didn't know those forums existed on this site but I'll go there instead, and if mutual help doesn't appeal to you, that's fine too.

And 8-rack seems like a problem

October 18, 2015 12:18 p.m.

if you don't want paths maybe go for swords to plowshares instead? still 1 mana instant exile that doesn't fetch a land but instead gains them life. which in this case won't do much in the case that they have been locked down. also what does kiora do in the deck? not criticising just curious.

Looks really fun tho +1

FAFFMEISTERWAFFLES if only swords was legal in modern. Condemn will have to suffice.

Kiora, Master of the Depths is good for mana fix if I'm stuck with tapped islands untapping noble hierarch allowing for some fun ramp shenanigans and Kioras ultimate comes pretty easy when you opponents locked down.

I know you've been wondering why it's hard to make friends at your LGS, and I'm here to tell you.... this is why.

All jokes aside like all the synergy, +1 from me.
