Why do you have polluted deltas? Other than that it looks like a solid deck :)

Mana thinning. Makes for less lands in your deck to draw after already playing a land. Also adds to delve if I side in Empty the Pits

And thanks, I'm really happy with it. Although I was just thinking to run 4 Bile Blight and side the Hero's Downfall Since there are a lot of 2-3 toughness creatures that are popular right now.

Great deck +1, love the fact that you use one of the most expensive fetch lands in the way you do as nobody ever looks at them as a thinning source anymore. can also annoy people when you play it and they then prepare for the blue counters and control to come in then for you to just say "My fetch land is for thinning but the blue part of it makes me a BADASS!"

By the way to anyone who reads this and thinks "WTF!" i want to point out im slightly insane!

But i think this deck needs to be a bit more prepared for late game as there is no flying or trample to help against small blockers that may come from a token deck or a deck of simmilar build, yes you can partially stop tokens with Bile Blight but if the opponent has a simmilar deck then all they have to do is pull out the big fatso and mash your face in.

@KieranBevan

Thank you. And I think Bile Blight and Boon of Erebos and be handy combat tricks to deal with bigger creatures. You can for example kill a Savage Knuckleblade if it blocks against any 2 power creature with Boon of Erebos (and you still keep your dude), you could kill a Siege Rhino with Bile Blight if they decide to block any of your 2 power guys. However, There's removal to deal with big creatures more effectively. Hero's Downfall and Dark Betrayal are in the sideboard for a reason.

I like this deck idea and want to mix it with white for protection and exile with Fabled Hero and enchantments

why are you not running master of the feasts in an aggro mono black

Krysis-Krow says... #9

Maybe you could add some number of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx?If you have a developed board, Nykthos could help you dump your hand or have an even more explosive turn with Mogis's Marauder

November 8, 2014 3:27 p.m.

@smackder Hero's Downfall is almost always a better choice, and I'll never be able to hit it's strive cost.

@Eagle_Budget_Decks I like the idea of B/W, sounds cool

@holydrmidget Feast is a very powerful card, but removal is too rampant in standard, and the risk of card advantage is too great, he's a hit or miss, I prefer consistency. Singing Bell Strike has doe a number on me too.

@Krysis-Krow Nykthos seems good in theory, but always having black mana lets you do things like play two 1 drop creatures on turn 1. The consistency and speed of always having black mana is more valuable. besides, I should be dropping my hand anyways with all these 1 drops unless I'm using Pain Seer.

are the Polluted Deltas neccisary, i run mono black aggro, also but since youve had very good success with your variant i thought that i would switch mine a little to run yours. I also do not have Thoughtseize would Despise be a good switch for that or would you not even run them instead?

November 23, 2014 7:59 p.m.

@nleming17

I would say they aren't. It plays just fine without them, there's just a decreased chance at drawing more land for each fetch land you crack, which is good for this playstyle. I happen to have a play set of Polluted Delta, so I'm putting them in the deck, I didn't got out of my way to get these for this deck. A lot of other decks run Bloodstained Mire too.

Despise is useful in it's own right. It should be fine, but taking away things like Anger of the Gods or End Hostilities is what makes Thoughtseize so valuable. It should be fine with despise, knowing what's in your opponent's hand is very strong no matter what you take away.

I've found Empty the Pits to be an amazing topdeck 2 of in these decks.

holydrmidget says... #15

why have all these fetch lands you have no way to reuse them or delve them it adds alot of money to this deck

December 7, 2014 7:37 p.m.

holydrmidget says... #16

unless your useing it to thin

December 7, 2014 7:39 p.m.

It's for thin, I didn't buy the fetches for this deck, I'm just using them since I own them. Empty the Pits could be good with the fetch land delve. Interesting.

I run a similar deck with some Dark Betrayal and Pharika's Cure in the side. The first is good when the marauder is useless (e.g. when there is a Siege Rhino on the field), the second is good against burn decks running seeker/rabblemaster/monastery mentor/soulfire etc...

These types of decks are always unexpected at tournament & have quite a bit of success .

I took out Foul-Tongue Shriek out of my mono black deck it under performed for me.

+1 From me !

April 13, 2015 7:55 a.m.

Thanks, I've been playing this archetype for a long time. I decided to optimize it down to as many 1 drops as possible. Foul-Tongue Shriek has been working for me and fits my curve nicely.

April 13, 2015 11:50 p.m.

I'm returning to the game and actually looking to build a deck along the same lines as this one. I mean black is the best color in Magic after all. For a version which would be easier on my wallet, what do you think of replacing Thought seize with 2 Duress and 2 Sign in Blood and also taking out Heroes Downfall for a play set of Ultimate Price and 2 Foul-Tongue Shriek?

Blood-Chin Rager is a very good two drop for the deck. I can help to sneak in those early points of damage through a blocker.

Spiteful Returned is another two drop historically played by this deck. It's ability to sneak in 2 damage, as well as be played turn 2 or 4 is very strong in the deck.

If you can find a place to slide these cards in it will fix your curve, and I think it will make the deck a lot faster and more menacing.

April 29, 2015 3:05 p.m.

I think rager is better in a warrior-focused shell.

I have used Spiteful Returned in other variants of this build. The problem is that it's a 1/1 body for 2. It's bestow is really good however, I've been trying to find a way to fit him back in. But I like the evasion Master of the Feast and Herald of Torment provide. I haven't had a problem with my curve, as long as I have 2 lands in hand I'm usually golden.

@Bigjimswafflehouse

I would recommend the following changes if you wanted to make a budget version of this deck:

-4 thoughtseize

-3 hero's downfall

+1 bile blight

+2 Despise

+2 duress

+2 murderous cut

Despise and Duress will give you want you want Thoughtseize for. run 2 of each mainboard and 2 of each in the sideboard.

Replace Hero's Downfall with Murderous Cut. Murderous cut is a decent enough replacement for downfall, but it hits you for 5 when you Pain Seer and that's why downfall is preferred.
