Cool deck. One thing I noticed that is important is that Boon of Erebos won't help with Bile Blight at all.

I'm aware. But it deals with Courser of Kruphix and Sylvan Caryatid. It's mainly there to remove early blockers or as a pump to end the game. Bile Blight is a card we'll want to be hitting with Thoughtseize on turn 1 or 2 ideally. Also Bile Blight isn't the only cheap removal spell in the format. It works on every red removal spell (including the terrifying Anger of the Gods) and any destroy effect or sweeper. If Bile Blight becomes a huge issue we can always take the boons out Game 2 and throw in Duress.

I'm aware the card is good, and I like it in the deck, I was just making a comment towards your description which listed Bile Blight as a reason for boon.

Oh I misread what you put because of the comma. My bad.

It's cool, maybe I should rewrite it so it's not as confusing. lol

And thank you, I'm gonna see how this tune works for my next FnM.

Splash white for Rally the Ancestors?

zzepic101

Seems good in theory, but I'm not splashing/sacrificing speed for a card that has 2 white symbols.

Nice deck. What did you did sideboard in against mono red? For my B/W Warriors deck I sideboarded 2x Virulent Plague, removed thoughtseize and went to town.

@mahyar

If you're referring to my last tournament:

It wasn't a regular red deck, It was running Obelisk of Urd and only goblin creatures.

My changes were:

-3 thoughtseize

-4 boon of erebos

-2 hero's downfall

+3 Duress

+3 bile blight

+3 ultimate price

I still needed hand disruption to stop the obelisk, so Duress came in for Thoughtseize. Unfortunately, in game three he played Eidolon of the Great Revel and I never saw a removal spell to deal with it. I was pretty helpless against it. That was pretty much the sole reason I lost, I was stuck with a crap load of 1 drops in hand and playing them would put me in the red zone. (which is normally fine, but not against mono red)

I feel like mono red will always be a hard match-up, but not impossible. I got a little unlucky not having a way to deal with eidolon.

Ahh

I think you can live without Self-Inflicted Wound and go with:I think the majority of Green/White creatures can be taken care of with Hero's Downfall. What I don't like about Self-Inflicted Wound is that it gives the opponent a choice of which removal they want.

I recommend this:

I do think Bile Blight + Virulent Plague could be an option to look into for your deck, primarily against that mono red deck you played.

So I also went 3-1 with a deck I based off yours except my problem was against a soul flayer deck. How does one simply win against that deck?

May 24, 2015 7:49 a.m.

Thank you for your suggestions mahyar.

Virulent Plague isn't versatile enough IMO. I had it in my sideboard at one time, but I rarely used it. I don't always have an issue with tokens. Also in that match up, he has tokens.. but there are plenty of creatures that aren't tokens. Bile Blight can deal with anything that deck throws at me. Ultimate Price is a better choice overall since it can hit small aggressive creatures as well as big threats. It's can be a good card against more than 1 kind of deck.

Self-Inflicted Wound was a power house last tournament. It stops mono white voltron decks, it kills Sylvan Caryatid, Dragonlord Ojutai, Siege Rhino and the list continues. You put this card in against decks that focus on playing one big threat at a time. Most Abzan Control decks only play Siege Rhino and Courser of Kruphix. They rare have more than 1 creature out at a time. So this removal is fine, especially since it also zapps your opponent for 2 life. edict + damage is really good, even if it has more limited application. A LOT of people play green or white.

Yeah I can definitely see the advantage of Self-Inflicted Wound especially since green is so popular. I keep losing to a G/W deck that combos den protector with death mist raptor, that g/w instant that can give +1/+1 counters, that boon satyr, and the fleecemane lion. It's ferocious deck and have only won a couple of times agains it.

Since you're obviously a more skilled player, what do you recommend?

+1 from me, love the deck.

Hate to pile on to the feedback requests, but let me know if you have any thoughts on Zombie's Delight? It's been running really well, despite me having moved a bit further away from purely zombie tribal.
