Yeah, not quite the same as first but still a milestone for me and this deck.
Took out Voyaging Satyr in favor of Siege Rhino which did wonderful things. Also tweaked my sideboard to make room for Foul-Tongue Invocation. On to my match-ups....
- Round 1: Soulflayer (1-0 Win)
Perhaps on of the grindiest games I've ever played - we finished Game 1 just as they called time in the round! A similar concept to mine, his goal was to mill Chromanticore and other goodies then delve it onto a Soulflayer, which he did several times, as well as simply bestowing Chromanticore onto other cool stuff like Sagu Mauler. It took a while, but Ugin was basically a god in this matchup thanks to Journey and Nyx Weaver.
- Round 2: Esper Dragon Control (0-2 Loss)
One of my really bad matchups - I lost this one, although I think I put up a pretty good fight this time. Like most control decks, he used counterspells and removal, cleverly stopping my Nyx Weavers and knocking out half my recursion! Oh no! His dragonlords and Ugin proved very problematic for me, and although Dromoka made him nervous he managed to either kill it or steal it with Dragonlord Silumgar! How annoying!
I did learn things here, though: He had sided in Virulent Plague against my Hornet Queens, which seems legit. I had sided them out (It just doesn't work here) so it effectively put him down a card, but still. Nice to know people will use it. I may need to use a "Surprise Sideboard" tactic against this to throw him off next time.
- Round 3: Mono Blue Devotion (2-0 Win)
I suspect he had some cool tricks I didn't see - but yeah, basically a mono-blue, creature heavy deck. Game 1 he got mana-screwed and I just dominated. I felt really bad... Game 2 went a little better. I sided in Sorin, he sided in counterspells, and we went back and forth for a while - but I still managed to overun him on Ugin and Hornet Queen.
- Round 4: Abzan Aggro (2-0 Win)
This is one of those matchups that makes me nervous, but isn't actually too bad. Both games I managed to muscle my way past without too much issue, even if it was only just (Game 2 ended with us both at 2 life and me praying he didn't top-deck Siege Rhino.)) I did learn of some extra problem cards: Fleecemane Lion and Elspeth, Sun's Champion, while not unworkable, are both difficult to deal with under the wrong circumstances, so I will be looking at options.
- Round 5: Blue/Black Control (2-0 Win)
This one wasn't as hard as the other control decks - he was mainly using removal (Which doesn't bother me much) over counterspells (Which would bother me more), and I feel like maybe he didn't have enough draw power, but maybe he just didn't see it out, whuch Rakshasa's Secret took full advantage of. Sideboarding proved similar to the other control matchup: he brought in lots of anti Hornet Queen stuff like Drown in Sorrow the aforementiond Plague, and Bile Blight, which Dromoka and Siege Rhino found amusing.
In Summary!
Had a lot of fun with it, can't wait to give it another go-round! I do need to work on my control matchup, and I have yet to see how I do against decks like Mono-Red Heroic or Jeskai Tokens. I'm not too worried, though...
