Hey guys! Well, the deck ended up taking 2nd place at my local FNM. I ended up going 3-0-1 so, as of now it's undefeated ;)
I'll attempt to give a rundown of each match. Here we go:
Match 1: vs U/R Aetherworks Marvel 2-0
Game 1: My opponent ended up getting an Ulamog out with his Marvel and exiled my Marvel and a Sylvan advocate. I still had some creatures out on the board including an Aethertorch renegade, which I used my energy to hit him for 6 the next turn and then sacrificed to emerge my Decimator, pumping all my creatures and swinging in for lethal.
Game 2: Not much to say here. My opponent kept a bad hand with only 1 land and a couple of Marvels and ended up getting mana screwed. I was able to get my board going with little creatures including Sylvan Advocate and Champion Scrapper to deal sufficient damage for the win.
Match 2: vs U/B Artifacts 1-1-1
Game 1: Opponent got mana screwed and I got Ulamog out with the marvel taking out his lands, making it that much more difficult. This one I won.
Game 2: This game was a lot more grindy. It took me awhile to get going here, but with life gain from Woodweavers puzzleknots and Arborback Stomper I was able to stay quite competitive. Unfortunately, because he was playing blue, every time I marveled for a big baddy, it ended up being countered. My opponent played a Mechanized Production on a Tezzeret's Simulacrum and started pinging me each turn. He was able to kill me before the win condition with Mechanized Production went off.
Game 3: Because game 2 went on so long, we were on turns very quickly. Not sure who would have won. I had some things countered, but was setting up. Guess we'll never know.
Match 3: vs. U/G Energy 2-0
Game 1: This game was a lot of fun. I was able to play some low cost creatures and ramp with Cryptolith Rite early into 2 Arborback Stomper which was excellent since I had a Decimator of the Provinces in hand also. The winning play went, tapping Aethertorch Renegade and using 8 energy to deal 6 damage. Then I sacrificed the renegade and emerged the Decimator to swing in for the win. Very satisfying.
Game 2: This game went pretty routine. Using puzzleknot to gain energy/life. On turn 5, cast an Aetherworks Marvel and spinning the wheel to get an ulamog. Exiled some stuff and pretty much just swung in to destroy their deck. They didn't seem happy...but I was ;)
Match 4: vs. U/R Prowess/Thing 2-0 (not entirely sure what to call this deck. It had the blue gear hulk, thing in the ice, and a lot of burn.)
Game 1: They ended up getting me down to 2 life by pinging me, but I ended up ramping into ulamog with cryptolith rite for the win.
Game 2: This was a grindy one. Thought I was going to die because I kept missing on my Marvel and getting countered by my opponent. Woodweaver's Puzzleknot put in work though, keeping my life up and getting me energy. Again, this game ended with me using energy on Aethertorch Renegade for 6 damage and then emerging Decimator of the Provinces for the win.
Conclusion:
The deck certainly had feet. My biggest problems were dealing with counter magic. I thought that I would have more trouble with flyers, but I really didn't see to many. I'm not entirely sure what needs to change, but maybe y'all could give me some suggestions.
