Release the Kraken! (sorry, I had to...)
So this deck is based around Quest for Ula's Temple. Almost every creature in the deck is either a Kraken, Leviathan, or Serpent so once Ula's has three counters you can cast those huge 8+ cmc creatures for free, as early as turn 3. The main trick to using Quest for Ula's Temple is having tons of scrying, allowing you to put a creature top deck for the counter. Using Augury Owl, Mystic Speculation, Sigiled Starfish, and even the land cad Halimar Depths to plan out your victory, while at the same time having some board presence. The clincher though is
Inkwell Leviathan
. He has not only shroud but Islandwalk. By using Spreading Seas you can potentially deny mana, get an early game card draw, as well as make
Inkwell Leviathan
unblockable. There is also the great
Stormtide Leviathan
, both opening up the alley for
Inkwell Leviathan
as well as denying non-flying attackers.
I typically like to make my decks budget friendly and this one I think fits the bill. The only really expensive cards
Inkwell Leviathan
and
Lorthos, the Tidemaker
; honestly I could do without Lorthos, when you hard cast him you have the mana for his ability to totally nerf your opponent but when you cast him turn 3 with Ula you cannot even use his biggest draw. But he does typically become a target for removal because of his potential power.
The Sideboard has a few more control cards if you think that were necessary. But I think the Archetype of Imagination could be particularly interesting here, if you got out Archetype of Imagination + Stormtide Leviathan
you could not be attacked.
The Maybeboard is full of other Leviathan and Kraken options. I mostly kept them there so they would not interfere with the cost estimation.
As with all my decks, they are mostly for fun. I typically do not compete or have the funding to gather the cards I covet. Just dreaming up combos and fun gameplay. But still, Any suggestions, comments, upvotes, or whatever are always appreciated.
