Right on, thanks. I have a copy and was thinking along those same lines. I will play the deck for a while as you have it listed here and see how it fares in my meta. I really appreciate the time you put into this. I never feel bad about net decking because of the time and effort folks like you put into their creations.

Thanks for the compliment! To be fair, I did not come up with meren stax, this is just a flavor. But indeed it is out here for all of us to share and grow as a community together!
Keep in mind, the learning curve for this take takes some time. You need to practice and play solo hands to understand the lines to combo off.
Good luck and let us know how it goes in your meta!

Why necropotence? I don't understand the use of this card, nice deck btw I adore it :)
March 11, 2019 6:55 p.m.
@darth87Why Necropotence !?!? Always run it in black heavy decks, one life for each card gained is nothing, i.e. you play necro, you probly have 3-4 cards in hand pay 3-4 life and be 3-4 draws ahead, i run mine alongside Venser's Journal cause its halarious.@phDaemon hey bud great deck, the cards alone constitute an awsome collection, +1 from me, my only question is why with all these combos why is victimze only maybe? In my deck (Merens risen) i run it for the t1>forest> Elves of Deep Shadow t2 swamp Buried Alive grab mike+trike or jarad+devourer then another supprt card of choice>t3 victimize the elf an win with mike+trike that turn or if its inturupted win with jarad+devourer t4. I know this deck is more high end yhan mine thou so i was just wondering if you had a reason for not including it, im currently working on making meren more competetive myself so any shared thoughts are welcome.

Thank you for explaining me necropotence, actually my question was about the exile effect of the card, and how does it work with Meren. I'm trying to making a good Meren deck I'm still learning. Thank you for your answer!
March 27, 2019 2:26 p.m.
@darth87 so you only exile when you discard, so you can draw to max hand size, or if you play Reliquary Tower or Thought Vessel you wont have to discard you just choose the amount of life your willing to loose, so thats why i play Venser's Journal cause then i just pay 10-15 life and start gaining 10-15 life each turn, back in the day (like 97 or so) the best combo was t1>swamp>tap> Dark Ritual >play Necropotence > pay 19 life> grabe game winning combo>discard rest> t2 win.

@darth87Also as a side note you can still drege to your grave yard or draw if you get a draw card trigger like Mind's Eye or something or return things with Meren, necropotence only affects your draw step draw, and discarding straight from hand, but in the crazy world of commander i have blownup necropotence myself to help myself once or twice. I hope that helps let me know if i can clarify a certain point i love this card lol.

Vash13 Thank you for the compliment!
That is a good point about Victimize . I might reconsider mainboarding it again. The main reason why I took it out in the first place is that it gives a chance to respond since sacrificing the creature is not a cost but part of the spell resolving, so for the combo to become unstoppable you need another piece like Sylvan Safekeeper out. I opted for other combos that are harder to respond to, e.g. Necromancy at end of the turn as instant or a chain with Body Snatcher where you hold priority and respond to it's own trigger and use a sac outlet. Some of these are a bit more complicated but they are harder to stop (Since getting the nut draw in EDH is always a long shot)

Btw, Added a picture section (Right now waiting for Azusa, which replaced Yisan). Will do so for all my decks.

Ok i see how Necromancy would be superior in that, that is an interesting instant clause would be good against control, i guess that one might chalk up to meta

C0RP53M0URN So, I buckled and ended up purchasing The Abyss Since I found an LP italian copy for relatively cheap on a reliable site.
I expect good results.

phDaemon, would Autumn's Veil be a possible inclusion for the deck?
May 18, 2019 2:02 a.m.
Frank_Glascock Hi, Thanks for the comment!
I would say tune the deck to your meta! If there's a card in here that does not fit your local meta, but that one does, try it out!
Personally, as a primer, I'm thinking that Finale of Devastation needs a space. I already have a playset, will update the pictures soon!

Amazing deck, upvote. I'm actually attempting to build a duel commander version of this deck Would you be able to share your thoughts on this process. https://archidekt.com/decks/341354#Death_to_us_all

ToolisMaynard You can generate infinite mana with Necro Ooze by tapping and untapping him for infinite mana if you have Devoted Druid and Channeler Initiate in graveyard same turn he hits the board, which is another line of winning with Walking Ballista in graveyard.
I'm working on a flash-hulk list with the King as commander that will have similar combos but it's more fuel than nuanced. Players hate on you hardcore when they know you're a combo player, and this deck doesn't show itself to be a combo deck until it drops a stax piece to lock up the board and combos off at some point after that.

sam171z Thanks! And thank you for the upvote!
I'm not sure a duel commander version of this deck would work very well since it would rely heavily on the stax with few win conditions. I'd probably add something like Exsanguinate, and Regrowth into the deck and maybe abuse the infinite mana that way. It's tough because so many of the pieces that are win conditions are banned in that format.

Azusa is in the deck only to be used with Excavator?
March 12, 2020 6:52 a.m.
Azusa is in the deck to break parity. Azusa turn 2 into a Nether Void turn 3 basically says only I can cast spells now. The synergy with excavator is gravy on top.

Dont know if you are still updating this, but I must ask as Im finishing this deck, any thoughts on Opposition Agent? Seems like a good addition to me.
Have a nice day sir.
December 16, 2020 1:03 a.m.
Mechanix666 I am still working on updating this and I agree that Opposition Agent might get a slot. Right now, I'm working on my Edgar (Castlevania - Symphony Of The Night) deck since my playgroup has gone semi-competitive and decided that turn 5+ infinite combos are ok.
This deck needs some re-work since a lot of new cards have dropped that might alter how the deck wins and the lines I want to include in it. Right now, it's playing a bit inconsistently due to the shift in meta and the newer powerful cards printed.

plenty hello!
Mainly for necro ooze to get haste. It's part of an infinite combo with channeler initiate, devoted druid for infinite mana.

C0RP53M0URN I did originally have a copy of Magus of the Abyss because The Abyss is too expensive even in Italian. But if I could cut something in the deck for it, it would probably be Ramunap Excavator Even though he lets you break parity with other stax pieces or Mindslicer since we have chains now (although I've used slicer to great effect).
In any case, I have the magus on the SB now since you could always bring it in for matches where you know you're going to need some creature control.
