In your previous post, you really went over all the same things I did in my head on revamping my Golgari deck. The Deadbridge Goliath are awesome 4 drops, but you have some better 4 drops and their scavenge is late game. Lotleth Troll is awesome, but it really didn't fit in my deck and I didn't have a lot of creatures I was willing to discard just for him. Deathrite Shaman are awesome, no doubt...but only to a point. I think there are better replacements for them in this style deck. Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord is another awesome card and he even won me a couple games at FNM once, but when it comes down to it, that space is better utilized with other creatures. When it came down to it I also ended up dropping my Dreg Mangler s to sideboard, and I only run Slitherhead s for scavenge.

In a nutshell, I completely agree with your decisions, and I would say do not hesitate to drop Deathrite Shamans or Dreg Manglers to try out some other cards.

Doing another update AND Deck Edit by Thursday before FNM. I'd like to try some new things out in the mean time related to my last post.

The Deathrite Shaman s are pretty important against the current control decks which rely heavily on Snapcaster Mage to use their removal spells twice per game. Maybe it would be worth it to drop them down to 2x or move them to the sideboard, but definitely not out completely. From the games I have been able to play with my Corpsejack Menace deck, control decks are the only decks I don't feel that I was at least evenly matched against my opponent.

I really wanted to like Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord , but he just doesn't work with the rest of the deck, so Essence Harvest is definitely taking his spot my deck.

I get where your coming from daknik. I really want deathrite shaman to work but.. something does need to be cut. It may be the wrong choice though. I'll try and fit it on the sideboard because if I really mess up doing it then I can revert.

My theoretical changes have all been made to the deck. I'm a little worried about lack of artifact destruction in my sideboard now... but I haven't really needed the Naturalize yet. Thoughts on new changes?

Also, if anyone has any thoughts on a "Sideboard Plan" for each scenario I could really use some tips.

I was only making a suggestion, it's your deck. Honestly I'm glad we are trying different things this week just to see what will work best. I think last FNM, with the exception of me not using Essence Harvest , we were running the same deck. I look forward to seeing how it turns out for you.

I am planning on adding another creature to my sideboard Lumberknot , his natural hexproof makes him a great sideboard card against decks with heavy removal, but he is definitely not a mainboard card. I won't have the card for this week, but he will make it into the sideboard for the following week.

Im running into logical problems in solitaire where Golgari Charms -1/-1 to opposing ramp would kill my own arbor elves. Their edition limits me to regenerate/disenchant.

Most mana ramp is for the beginning of the game. I would hope that by the time you would need to cast Golgari Charm to get rid of token armies, you won't need the mana ramp anymore and can cast the -1/-1 without a major impact to your available mana.

Fair enough. I need to get ahold of someone to test against before Friday. My roommates gone for the week. Lots of small changes could be big!

I'm also considering going back to 2 Essence Harvest, but I want to wait till I can live-test the 3. I seem to be drawing them a lot on my opening hand for the simulator if I have 3 in the deck.

Ring of Kalonia on Champion of Lambholt might help out a little, add an extra +1/+1 counter every turn, with Corpsejack Menace out, that might help a bit too :) Golgari Charm can help Regenerate your creatures, and DESTROY (love that word) any Oblivion Ring s or Detention Sphere s the opponent uses :) I hope this helps!

I took out my rings because they got started too slowly mana wise. Golgari charms are great i already have 3 :)

I was planning to FNM this week but it's possible something is going to interfere Friday. Either way, I found a way to test my deck for free over the internet with a few friends and i'm planning on playing it this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

For anyone curious: http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/List_of_MTG_Engines

I'm using MAGE. There are some ai issues but usually the bots make good choices. You can make decks for them to use or have it generate from categories. You can also set up port-forwarding on your router to accept connections on your server. Then anyone with it downloaded can connect and play you =)

i have a very similar deck deck:slitherhead-pit-dweller-and-friend-called-hydra

This is one is nice. I had to add a bunch of Fog and card:Ranger's Guile for the deck to work right with the hydra.

Would it hurt your mana base to run card:Rogue's Passage? I don't see much in the way of unblockability bar Champion of Lambholt and you only have 2 of them, maybe intimidate things like Highborn Ghoul or something like Korozda Guildmage ... I'd possibly even run Knight of Infamy . Exalted works really well with cards like Essence Harvest and Disciple of Bolas and evasion from more than 1/5th of creatures isn't negligible

When I say unblockable I mostly mean damage that bypasses blockers (Rather than the effect unblockable exclusively).

Unblockable Champion of Lambholt

Trample on Primordial Hydra , Rancor for others

Essence Harvest

I've also been utilizing Garruk to pull lambholt to my hand. Going to add a third lambholt as soon as I can decide what to take out as well.

Still, something like Korozda Guildmage wouldn't be a bad answer to Oblivion Ring amongst other removal spells.

If they o-ring a 10/10 Primordial Hydra and you sac it to korozda guildmage, the o-ring becomes redundant and you get the same 10 power to swing with in the next turn, a lot less unblockable too, due to the fact that your opponent is left with a trade of 1 creature for every 1 damage you throw at them.

Plus that intimidate ability isn't negligible.

Yeah.. but it's 4 mana. And i'm not going to have 4 mana on reserve their turn unless the games already decided. I'm not arguing its usefulness, just its feasibility. if they have heavy removal i'm more likely to bring my Sheltering Word over from the sideboard which would keep my hydra alive and heal me for its toughness.

Does anyone have practice with creating sideboard notes? I'd like some help coming up with "if this..then this" strategies with my sideboard. In addition to which cards to board over, i'd like to highlight how my strategy and timings change on plays.

Trying out 2 Abrupt Decay and 1 Murder over 3 Murder. Any sideboard note suggestions?

I feel Korozda Guildmage has a variety of uses in this deck, aside from giving intimidate, the +1/+1 cna also help get Champion of Lambholt just high enough to make your creatures unblockable, it can also serve as a sac engine when your creatures are targeted, or for sac to put saproling tokens out to pump up Champion of Lambholt when they enter the battlefield.

@Bigk_512

The only issue I have with using Korozda Guildmage as a sac engine is the 4cmc (seems really heavy, and it may not always be available).

The intimidate factor helps but it'll be limited depending on his opponent.

Definitely sideboard material under the right circumstances.

@Gigglestomp:

Killing wave is a decent card to have when you have to clear a mass amount of creatures (mainly tokens). Since your field is usually smaller than your opponents, this could work...

Ulvenwald Tracker is a very nice card to force fights between two creatures. Can save you from flyers and make your Predator Ooze grow.

If you don't like any of the above, you can always try Deadly Allure to force blocks.

Bonus: Your creature gets deathtouch
