Congregate has a bit of a high mana cost to use in conjunction with Vizkopa Guildmage , how about Ordeal of Heliod ? you don't even have to pay mana to use it's life gain effect and will have relevance if you're swinging with a turn 3 Fiendslayer Paladin . Insatiable Harpy will be a bit weak without some Dark Favor though, maybe just put in some Gift of Orzhova that way you can choose who gets flying (and lifelink obviously). Also have you considered willing from Ready / Willing for some deathtouch at instant speed fun. nice deck though +1 :).

hmm, good idea on the Ordeal of Heliod ill definately consider that one. the Vizkopa Guildmage Congregate is expensive.
I do like the Insatiable Harpy , and with a Dark Favor they are tough. but you are right.ill test both ways, with the harpy's and without, (with some gifts).but i dont like the idea of losing too many creatures. (-4 harpy to add enchantments) I may try to just get the dark favors on them.. will have to see..
I havent even thought of willing.. Ill have to try that as well. but as for the ordeal of heliod, yes i think ill try that one now!thanks

looks like I can get a turn 5 win if i get a Blood Baron of Vizkopa in play, and 2x Ordeal of Heliod on an attacking creature early enough.. good stuff!

oh cool! plus with counters from Archangel of Thune they can go off almost instantly late game

i am running a deck similar to this except more enchantment and heroic based, but still life gain. I feel that Sanguine Bond works really well for me and so does Blind Obedience , hope this helps you !
October 12, 2013 2:17 a.m.
yes, they both do,i have blind obedience in the sideboard, use to run it main, but I sideboarded it.Also I did have 2 sanguine bonds in originally. as well as 3 Archangel of Thune 4x Blood Baron of Vizkopa and 2 Obzedat, Ghost Council .. I had way too many 5 drops.. I took out the bonds for Ordeal of Heliod . you can get it out on turn two, and by turn five, with a vizkopa guildmage and 2 ordeal of heliod.. you can use the sanguine bond type combo for 20 and win. with the actual bond.. it dosent come out until turn five, and that's all you can play that turn. to me, this is more streamlined.thanks for the suggestions!

Another Orzhov lover...which makes you a compatriot!I like this deck. Intrigued, as well. I've been trying to find a good slot to throw in some Ordeal of Heliod but haven't done so, yet. I like what you've done here.
Question: Taken this to an FNM yet and, if so, how is it doing?
Perhaps we can trade off some notes! My deck's Godless Angels of Penance. Doesn't matter whose deck wins, as long as that deck's an Orzhov lifegain, I support it! LOL

right on! no i havent taken it to fnm, but in my playgroup.. i win.. ALOT.
this is my main deck for sure..orderal of heliod with vizkopa guildmage is brutal if you can pull it off turn 5!

+1 from me regardless.I like what you do here with the Guildmage and Ordeal.
May need to do something similar with my Orzhov deck, but I have a lot of other utility going on there that I don't know if I can fit in Ordeal...(though that card smashes in Limited).
If ya can sometime, check out my deck and let me know your thoughts.Good luck with this one. I like how it runs!

i quickly checked it out, at work though so cant study it yet! but ill get to it.. love orzhov man!

After a decent playtest session I found the deck wanted to be at 25 land.
November 1, 2013 9:58 a.m.
thanks guys, appreciate the comments!!If you wanted to run 25 would be easy to do. I would drop an Archangel of Thune, or a Fiendslayer Paladin, and add that 4th Godless Shrine that i haven't accumulated yet. but I have been playing this as my main deck for a good while now. and I am happy at 24.I may try it with 25 just to see if i get my 5 drops on t5 more consistently.. but there are times where im overloaded with mana as it is.
thanks again guys!

That deck of mine that I referenced above...I've run only 24 lands with that deck at every FNM I've taken it to...never been disappointed. I see no need to go 25 lands here. Yes, 25 lands will increase your chances of landing a turn 5 Obzedat...but you have enough early threats to carry you through a 5th land drop on turn 6. Desecration...High Priest...8 of them total...they slow up your opponent's pace enough to buy you time.
Save that 25th land spot for a creature or removal. In the mid-game, which is what this deck is built to take you to anyway, that creature or removal will be much more valuable to you than putting down that 10th swamp...

yep, im sticking to 24, worls well.. only thing ill change is adding a godless shrine, and replace doom blades with downfalls. (and rework my sideboard)other than that.. deck is finished

how does it look now? its quite a bit faster, took out the Sanguine Bond , and replaced with more Vizkopa Guildmage a bit more removal..
still need a good -x -x card that doesnt drive off of swamps, or something simular.. but its running alot faster now.
