So the idea behind my take on the deck is the basically the same as the more stock UR builds. Plan A.0 is to play TITI and flip it as fast as possible, and plan A.1 is to get a bunch of free creatures fast and overwhelm you opponent. How my list differs, though, is that where most UR decks run
Bedlam Reveler
or
Crackling Drake
as a plan B, I play Loam and Flame Jab. When plan A falls through I start dredging Loam, and instead of needing to reload I can use Flame Jab to get all my Phoenixes back every turn. Loam, Jab, Jab, land drop is every Phoenix and Bloodghast back in play while loading the GY with more Phoenixes and Bloodghasts along the way.
I know there's gonna be questions about a few cards so I'll try to get those answered:
Dream Twist? Dream Twist is bananas in this build. I have been playing a Loam TITI deck for a while, and have just about always wanted more stuff to do from the GY; Dream Twist is cheap to flashback, cheap to cast, and works well for when I'm Loaming and when I'm trying to power out Phoenixes. It also makes a super nice progression in power for Loam. With four lands I can go Loam, Jab, Jab, land drop; with five lands I can go Loam, Twist, Jab, land drop; And with six lands I can go Loam, Looting, Jab, land drop. Each of those iterations is three spells for Phoenix and land drop for Bloodghast, as well as powering more cards into the GY all from out of the GY.
What's with your four card sideboard? The rest of my sideboard I'm not sold on yet, and it didn't do much for me at the FNM so I'm not gonna write about it more than to say it's normal stuff but not concrete. Firemind's Research, though, I'm super sold on being the anti GY hate card I want to be playing, and I was swapping it out for Bloodghast four-for-four in just about every post board game.
