Thanks for the comment, and yeah Architect works very well with this setup. Once ZEN does roll out, I'm gonna have to find something to replace it because it really helps.

Phantasmal Image s are great, because they can copy all your illusions, even the phantasmal ones because it doesn't directly target them.
August 4, 2011 12:20 p.m.
The only reason I like Phantasmal Image more than Phyrexian Metamorph is because it only costs 2 mana as opposed to 4. Other than that they do basically the same thing...
August 4, 2011 1:35 p.m.
The image is good because if you copy Lord of the Unreal it says "Illusions you control" not "Other Illusions" so he would basically become an indestructible Lord.

Holy crap I am definitely gonna add Phantasmal Image in for Phyrexian Metamorph because of what JeikobuH just said. Holy crao I am pumped.

I was also thinking about card:Summoner's Bane, but I am worried about ZEN dropping.

They reason why Phantasmal Image is better than Phyrexian Metamorph in this deck is not only because of the mana, but also because the Image gives the Illusion sub type to the creature you copy, meaning you can copy even an opponent creature. In any case though, I would always try to copy the Lord =)

I like this deck a lot, I playtested it against a couple decks, and I love how consistent it is, and how it always seems to curve nicely. It seems good against control especially though I had trouble against goblins and rdw. Valakut seems like it could be tough too. Do you have a sideboard? I might recommend Ratchet Bomb in the sideboard for goblins, tempered steel, etc and also I can't help thinking Wurmcoil Engine since the Architect lets you ramp to 6 pretty easily with this deck. +1 from me.

Also, I wasn't sure about Ponder over Preordain, but in testing I did like it a lot. Preordain is better at helping you find the specific thing you need at that moment, but for an essentially aggro creature deck like this, Ponder often lets you choose the order you will draw your creatures which I think is better for this deck.

Ohhh man I really like Xenograft , that might be my replacement for the AEther Figment s. Thanks for all the comments.

If you're using Grand Architect , why not add some big artifacts like Wurmcoil Engine or Steel Hellkite ? Also, Phyrexian Metamorph would be a great addition.
And just use Stoic Rebuttal instead of Cancel .

Alright I made some changes. Completely removed AEther Figment and replaced them with Phantasmal Image . Added 2 Wurmcoil Engine for 1 Island and 1 Automaton. I also removed Ponder and replaced it with Dismember .

you could also maybe go Steel Hellkite over the Wurmcoil Engine . the hellkite adds nice board control, especially against other fast aggro decks in that you can take out most of their creatures by just paying a couple mana after you attack. its pretty much a reusable Ratchet Bomb with a big body on it. both the hellkite and engine are good, i just figured i would throw out the idea.

Made some changes. Replaced Mana Leak with 4 Negates and took out 2 Dismembers and put in 2 Dissipates. I also subbed in 2 Consecrated Sphinx in place of 2 Phyrexian Metamorphs.

Have you considered running Pili-Pala? Also I would consider running Sage of Epityr instead of aether figment simply to increase your blue 1 drop count, so you can consistently get a turn 3 6-drop with Grand Architect. Cheers!

I like Sage of Epityr but the problem is it's not an illusion like the Figment. I do like having another one drop though. May I ask, why Pili-Pala?

Oh I see because of the architect... His ability and him are both two mana. I see.

You could try Jace, Architect of Thought for his +1 and the card draw effect. Tezzeret the Seeker gives your artifact creatures pseudo vigilance. You could splash red for Lightning Bolt and Shared Animosity witch could be interesting. AEther Vial, while not budget, is great for aggro decks, which, this is, and it allows you to hold up mana for some counters.

Also, Phantasmal Image can copy your Lord, giving itself Hexproof and +1/+1.

Hmm, I'm liking all these suggestions, thanks a ton. I could use some help deciding what to sub out for all these haha

I put in the wrong which. Derp. Anyway, you could take out AEther Figment entirely. A 3/3 for five isn't that great. It might be unblockable, but it dies to nearly all removal in the format. I'm not sure Gitaxian Probe does anything really for you. Your sideboard needs to be completely reworked, and you can move Spellskite to the side. Or out entirely since it doesn't stop your Illusions from being sacrificed. Though, it saves your Wurmcoils and Lords.
Sideboard
2x Hurkyl's Recall for Affinity
3x Dismember for matches where you're facing down Abzan or another aggro deck and you need targeted removal.
2x Cyclonic Rift for B/W tokens or creature heavy strategies.
2x Torpor Orb again, Abzan, also Soul Sisters and other ETB decks.
3x Grafdigger's Cage for Storm and some graveyard decks.
3x Relic of Progenitus more graveyard hate.
These are merely suggestions for you to work with or discard completely. Good luck :D

I just posted something very similar to this with "Chose your Illusion" I did not include Aether Figment because I wanted it to be standard after ZEN rolls out. I love Grand Architect and have no idea why I didn't think of that myself.
