1 & 2 drop creatures, lots of burn, Risk Factor and Experimental Frenzy.
Lost in 2, didn't draw well either game. Opponent top decks burn to win both games.
Round 2 Mono Red Aggro (W 2-0):
Hit ritual of soot in game 1, counter spells to stop experimental frenzy from resolving. Board in Negate x3 and Moment of Craving x2.
Game 2 Lava Coil kills a Rekindling Phoenix, Nicol Bolas, the Ravager
Flip seals the deal.
Round 3 U/B surveil/artifact/Zahid, Djinn of the Lamp (W 2-0):
Very odd brew. Opponent didn't seem to board in counter magic. Ritual of Soot 3 for 1'd him both games. Doom Whisperer put both games away quickly.
Round 4 burn heavy U/R Wizards (W 2-1):
Won game 1 with Ral, Izzet Viceroy emblem.
Game 2 I board in Negate x4, Disinformation Campaign and Thief of Sanity x3. He drew all 4 of his Negate and 3 Ionize and I missed land drops early, fell behind.
Game 3 I managed to get Search for Azcanta
Flip in play on turn 2, hit my land drops and won with Doom Whisperer and heavy counter back up. Interestingly he played 3 Risk Factor jump-started 2 of them so 5 total, I let him draw 9 cards but azcanta + Chemister's Insight kept me just ahead on cards.
Round 5 Jeskai Control (W 2-1) Game 1 I managed to flip Nicol Bolas, the Arisen
Flip and -4'd to get his Teferi, Hero of Dominaria. He scooped.
Boarded in Negate x4, Duress x4, Thief of Sanity x3, took out Ritual of Soot and all spot removal except Vraska's Contempt.
Game 2 opponent resolved a Dawn of Hope which I managed to bounce twice with Dream Eater but both times he replayed with negate back up. Lost to the tokens after he played Nexus of Fate *list*.
Game 3 I finally drew Duress. Took him off counter magic early. Resolved Doom Whisperer which he killed. Then managed to flip Nicol Bolas, the Arisen
Flip again and -4'd to get back Doom Whisperer. Had answers to everything he wanted to do. Duress was MVP of the match.
4-1 overall, took 6th because my loss dropped from the tournament after round 3. Haven't had the chance to play against Golgari midrange yet but seems like I have a favorable match up against non-black control and decently strong against red aggro. Never even got to attack with Thief of Sanity. Opponents killed it with extreme prejudice. That card makes me happy.
