Thinking about upgrades to Deadly Discovery, the Golgari challenger deck from 2019, see: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/challenger-decks-2019-03-18
So I bought that and upgraded it kind of with a budget Hardened Scales idea... So +1/+1 counters kind of idea... But explore is also a different mechanic... Lots of lands too...
But now I see new powerful explore cards.... So let's try this out. X mana value in Jadelight Spelunker could be a payoff for all these lands from explore...
Let's build a strong explore package/shell.
Retrace works well with explore. Worth it for Six? Allows us to use all our lands and mana and get cards back...
Let's keep golgari... Let's try to keep the feel of the deck. Original deck also had Ravenous Chupacabra and Golgari Findbroker for value, so let's keep that midrange feel... Even though this feels like it could be monogreen
Lands are a questionmark... Have to find out what cool lands I wanna use etc... Original deck had 23 lands... Maybe look at if a different number suits this better with all this exploring + a different mana curve.
Not so sure about some cards... Original deck had 2 Find / Finality, do we want? It had 4 Cast Down... Look at original sideboard and compare to minor changes I made... Hm....
Note currently not even 60 cards.
Make and keep it Pioneer legal, like the original deck?
Thinking about the lands... How many? What kind? Playtest to see?
Basic google: "A good formula for the number of lands in your 60-card deck, counting MDFCs partially in this fashion, is: 19.59 + 1.90 * average mana value of your spells – 0.28 * number of cheap card draw or mana ramp spells + 0.27 if you have a companion."
Found this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/MagicArena/comments/17qfphc/should_adding_explore_cards_to_a_deck_incentivize/ ... "25 lands"...
"Explore draws cards." Drawing lands > leads to drawing cards under land when next drawing. "Explore does not make you mana-flood." > Don't put nonland cards into graveyard > Don't flood.
Manlands? Creature lands! I hadn't thought much about it. Titania, Protector of Argoth is good with creature lands. The Gitrog Monster is good with extra lands. Hissing Quagmire. Mutavault but colorless mana poses deckbuilding constraints... Mishra's Factory Restless Cottage Treetop Village Lair of the Hydra Svogthos, the Restless Tomb ... See here https://draftsim.com/creature-lands-mtg/
Also, explore is card draw? Do I want lands you can cycle or use to draw cards directly? Castle Locthwain ... Nurturing Peatland
