Go hard in the GWU paint. Bant Scales is comin to put the hurt on all y'all. My 4/4 make sure all your kid's don't grow.

Rap puns aside, this is my version of Bant Scales.

The name of the game is aggro. It takes a few turns to get the machine running, but once it starts, it's racing towards the finish. Big creatures hit the board right off the bat or become investments that you foster into massive size. Start off humbly with Hardened Scales into a turn 2 2/2 Servant. Maybe even two of those. Then progress to your turn three. Managorger? Avatar? Either will do. There after, it's time to put down the beating. Valorous Stance to defend, remove or pop your filled Hangar Back Walker. Get rid of pesky blockers with Dromoka's Command or beef a guy up. You've got four options with this card, use as you see fit. By the time you're done, the other guy's gonna have blue, white and green bruises.

Your swole creatures will bring the pain, that you can count on. What you can also count on are kill spells to get in your way. That's where our blue comes in. Thwart their instants/enchantments/sorceries with our cheap counter spell, Stubborn Denial. Hey, it ain't Gods Willing, but it'll do the job nicely. And should they succeed, we have a recourse for that. Treasure Cruise let's us unload a full grave to skim the top three cards off the deck.

Sideboard offers a variety of answers for whatever we might encounter. Silkwrap for the small irritations that can very well grow into larger one. For red aggro, we have two Surge of Righteousness and Winds of Qal Sisma, though Qal can also be good when you attack into death touchers. For those control decks, we put in Dispel, Disdainful Stroke, Mastery of the Unseen, Evolutionary Leap and Abzan Beastmaster. Evolutionary, Mastery and Beastmaster allows us to keep digging for threats should a board state be able to develop. Dispel is the aid to help us do just that while Disdainful keeps their big guys from landing. Hidden Dragonslayer is also good in that regard although his focus is on creatures and not so much the planeswalkers, i.e Ugin. Inspiring call is the answer to board wipes as well as targeted kill spells, which is the only reason we entertain the notion of Feat of Resistance in the side board.

Go forth, Bant Scales players, and rock the world with the biggest, baddest creatures.

Solid wins and one loss. First deck was Dark Temur. Won 2-0 with no hiccups. Stubborn Denial did work here as did Managorger. On game one, I managed to get three hyrdras on the board and one Dommand before he scooped and went to the next round. Side board was against targeted kill spells so Dispel and Feat of Resistance came on. Didn't need to though. My creatures maintained dominance in an equally short second game.

2nd match was to a R/B aggro deck. First round was a solid victory as SD did it's job and I managed to keep creatures on the board. More targeted creature removal counters and I tried Abzan Beastmaster. That was a bad call as I drew both of them when I had no board state. Lost game 2. Subbed him out, but went Winds and Dragonslayer, but still couldn't keep the board state up against the beatings. Lost 2-1.

3rd match was Abzan Red Control. Wasn't too worried about this match up. SD came at just the right times as did Dommands. Swept the first round with a strong board state of two beefy Avatars and a devolping Hydra. Subbed in Dispel, Surge and Disdainful. Second game was tricky. I had a huge Avatar on the board but he had a Rhino and Tasigur on the board with a unmorphed Den Protector waiting to be used. SD was in hand of course for when he returned Crackling Doom to hand, but I drew Falconer to swing in damage uninterrupted. 2-0 this round.

Final match was Abzan Elves. Was familiar with the player and his deck, and he was with mine as well. Game one was in his favor. I was running dry with only two lands down and no third to let me play Falconer for the win. Subbed in Dispel for CoCo's and Surge for Rhinos and decided to give Beastmaster a second chance. Hated the idea of loosing my bigger creatures to deathtouch, so they seemed like a strong way to trade. Second game was firmly mine. Silkwrapped a Beastmaster Savant and had both Abzan Beastmasters down with a Managorger. Card advantage was real as I drew SD to stop his CoCo plays kept the board firmly in my hands. Third round, I took easy as he had to mulligan to five. Traded my HBW for a Dwyen Elite and used Dommands to buff my two thopters and kill off his board. Beat down all his attempts to develop and snagged the win.

The loss was a set back, but I had to mulligan to five the last game of that match. Nothing could be done. Netted 3rd place all in all, with first being another R/B aggro and second Mardu Dragons. Looking forward to
