U/R Jhoira of the Ghitu (General)

Commander / EDH

Macer

Maybeboard

This is an overview and breakdown of my competitive Jhoira of the Ghitu deck that I have created for the Commander/EDH constructed format. It was designed to be played in a competitive environment where the main objective is to win. It was also designed to be effective in both one on one and multiplayer match-ups.

Since this is a competitive deck, we are going to make the assumption that our opponents are not only going to try and win, but they are also going to try and disrupt us from winning. That means that they will try to find and play cards that will disrupt our game plan. We need resilience so we can protect our game plan and win the game. Likewise, we also assume the reverse and that we will need to find and play cards that disrupt our opponent's game plan. Our disruption must be as widespread as possible and we must have multiple win conditions that are as immune to disruption as possible.

Basic Lands

Snow-Covered Island

Snow-Covered Mountain

There is a reason why we only include snow-covered lands in our build. Mono-colored decks will often use cards like Extraplanar Lens to imprint a snow-covered land with the hope that they will be the only ones who can take advantage of the Extraplanar Lens triggered ability. With snow-covered lands, we get all the advantages of the basic land card type with almost none of the disadvantages. Since our Snow-Covered Island is considered a basic land type it is also not adversely affected by our Blood Moon or Magus of the Moon cards so we can still produce our as needed.
