This deck features Delver of Secrets
and Stormchaser Mage as threats throughout all stages of the game, while Young Pyromancer is used to go wide around decks with fewer but larger creatures. The inclusion of counterspells provides answers to your opponent's threats while helping to pump out tokens and prowess triggers.
Delver of Secrets
is helped by the deck containing 28 instants/sorceries, providing a good chance of a quick transformation and is a fairly consistent source of 3 damage.
Stormchaser Mage starts at only 1 damage but grows quickly with each instant and sorcery you cast.
Young Pyromancer can quickly get out of control and overwhelm an opponent, especially if you can get multiple onto the field for 2+ tokens with each spell.
Faithless Looting + Fiery Temper
helps to find the cards you need and create triggers, while setting up a budget alternative to Lightning Bolt.
Forked Bolt
is a versatile budget card that can kill an X/2 creature, two X/1 creatures, or deal damage directly.
A variety of counters are included to answer any type of threat an opponent can present.
Sideboard:
Ceremonious Rejection is a direct counter to Eldrazi decks and are usually best to use on their high drop creatures and Thought-Knot Seers.
Disdainful Stroke
is an additional counter to Eldrazi decks while also threatening numerous other decks that really on high drop cards as their win conditions.
Dispel is useful against instant-heavy decks such as Burn and combo decks use instants in their win condition. It also provides an answer to many removal and counterspells.
Izzet Staticaster can cause trouble for token decks and quickly remove Memnites from the field when playing against Affinity.
Negate is a general counterspell that provides a cheap answer to enchantments while also being usable against instants and sorceries.
Smash to Smithereens
is a great artifact removal card that also bolts the opponent.
Tormod's Crypt is useful for graveyard hate against Delve, Dredge, and Tarmogoyf.
