If you're going to use phyrexian metamorph, I'd say run four simply for the hilarious one turn win of Rune-Scarred Demon tutoring Metamorph(play for free with 2 life and 2 heartless summoning] copying the demon and tutoring for another one, copying the demon and tutoring for another one, copying the demon and tutoring the final metamorph which tutors up Urabrask to swing for the win.

Side boarding Manic Vandal helps with this deck. For one red you get a 1/1 that destroys an artifact.

I like the combo of 2x Heartless Summoning + 1x Rune-Scarred Demon + 4x Phyrexian Metamorph

Cast Rune-Scarred Demon for 1c2b then search for Phyrexian Metamorph and cast it, paying 2 life, copying the demon. repeat the steps until u get 5 4/4 fliers :)

+1

-1 Inferno Titan , +1 Sheoldred, Whispering One

I would also recommend moving the Phyrexian Metamorph s to sb and maining 2 Massacre Wurm s to handle tokens/weenie decks

First off, I love the Rune-Scarred Demon combo with Phyrexian Metamorph . To that end, adding in Gitaxian Probe to check your opponents hand and make sure they don't do something mean when you try it could be really helpful, and still free thanks to the 2 life cost. It's a great card in mono black infect for the same reason, it lets you throw it all on the line to set up your win condition.

what about Reaper from the Abyss ?

I really like this! Priest of Urabrask is fantastic with Heartless Summoning especially with Brimstone Volley .

I really like Bloodgift Demon in this deck because it's not too expensive if Heartless Summoning doesn't show up and even helps dig it out of your library. With Heartless Summoning on the field, your drawing two cards every turn starting turn 4, often allowing you to play multiple spells per turn. I would probably drop a Titan or two in favor for more demons.

Dismember isn't bad in the main board, but I would at least side board some more efficient removal since you have access to black. To be honest, I would probably just main board Doom Blade .

Infernal Plunge is a nice card here too if Heartless Summoning doesn't show. Though I don't know what I would sub out. Perilous Myr + Infernal Plunge + Brimstone Volley is always fun, but not if Summoning is on the field. You would need more sac targets like Solemn Simulacrum to make plunge viable. Of course, Solemn is great in this deck. Especially with card:Altar's Reap.

This is the Heartless Summoning deck I've been playing casually lately MBC Heartless Gift, and it's been a lot of fun, but your deck has inspired me to go black red. I think I'll pull in a bunch of cheap burn spells to take advantage of the extra bloodgift draw. I'll be sure to let you know how it turns out. Thanks

can you legally play Myr Superion for free with Heartless Summoning in play????

November 28, 2011 7:27 p.m.

yes, because you are not spending any non-creature produced mana to cast it since it costs 0.

I would just take out the card:Altar's Reap and replace them with Bloodgift Demon s they give you good card draw, plus a good flier, and are cheap because of heartless summoning. I would take out the Dismember s (can't kill titans) and replace them with Tribute to Hunger s, which give you health back from the Bloodgift Demon 's effect.

Nice. I forgot about Tribute. I agree.

what are you going to do about the problem of not drawing Heartless Summoning ?

Diabolic Tutor

id say no to it because to much mana.

The problem I have with these type of decks is that it either works or it doesn't. Magic already has quite a bit of luck at play, why add more?

In current standard format I dont feel there is an effective way to play Heartless Summoning unless there is a card like Diabolic Tutor only cheaper. A two or three drop that allows you to search your library for an enchantment would be nice. Perhaps the up and coming set will add something to make it worth making a deck like this.

Still +1 for an nice idea.

Hasn't this been the top deck for over a month now? I just think that's weird. Nice deck of course, worthy of its score, but I thought that top decks were only ones that are up to 2 weeks old.

So I honestly think this can be seriously competitive right now, but requires Curse of Death's Hold. I know its expensive but this is needed against Moorland haunt and illusions. I see moorland haunt and Geist really giving this deck a hassle

Steimtime says... #22

The problem is that if they are playing Honor of the Pure or Intangible Virtue , card:Curse of Death's Hold is quickly negated.

RottenJeeves says... #23

@Steimtime if its a token deck then most their utility creatures should be 1/1. Though I see your point about Honor of the pure.

My version of this deck has white instead of red so I use Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and sideboard Massacre Wurm for tokens and such.

I've playtested this thing so many times, just to make myself happy. Beautiful deck, my man!

Comments? personally, I RARELY used the card:Altar's Reap and would suggest replacing them with either another Wurmcoil Engine or Bloodgift Demon . The games I drop the demon are just so dang dominant, and what's scarier than a hasting wurmcoil, even without the Heartless Summoning ? Yeah, it's hard to handle. The only 'bad' tests I had with the deck were games where, probably because of my shuffling, i would either get all 4 heartlesses or about 13 lands. Besides those dud games this deck is SO sweet. Already +1'd or i would again!
