This is my first cEDH deck and primer, and I decided to create a deck around Muldrotha, the Gravetide. Since I saw Muldrotha, the Gravetide's potential to cast board wipes like Pernicious Deed and protection like Spore Frog multiple times. I also saw the potential in stax cards like Mana Vortex in a Muldrotha Sultai Board-Control shell in being able to cast the cards you sacrifice over and over again. So I made a stax deck focused around casting the cards I sacrifice and/or discard.

The Shell Show

Unlike many of the most popular stax decks, this deck does not run white. It also is less focused on keeping things tapped through cards like Winter Orb and Static Orb. It is a Sultai Control board-control shell, disallowing cards to stay on the battlefield for long. So rather than running mutliple Counterspell effects, it runs a lot of spot removal like Banewhip Punisher and Seal of Doom. Sultai colors also gives us three very powerful themes from our colors: Blue gives card advantage and Deadeye Navigator, Green gives us ramp, and Black gives us sacrifice effects and spot removal, as well as important tutors such as Diabolic Tutor. This gives us a certain amount of versatility for finding stax pieces

Synergies

There are various synergies within this deck, some of them are quite vital. The biggest founding synergy of this deck is Muldrotha, the Gravetide and all-player discard/sacrifice effects like Smokestack and Oppression. One of the most useful synergies/combos is Eternal Witness and Diabolic Intent. Since Eternal Witness returns a card from your graveyard to your hand, you return Diabolic Intent from your graveyard to your hand in order to cast it, sacrificing Eternal Witness. When you have Muldrotha out, you can recast Eternal Witness. Another synergy is one of the ways you win the game. When you have Phantasmal Image in your graveyard with Muldrotha, the Gravetide, you cast Phantasmal Image copying Muldrotha, the Gravetide letting the original die. If you have Lion's Eye Diamond, you crack it for black and cast Animate Dead on Muldrotha, letting the copy die. You do this infinite times, and crack LED for all colors and you cast your entire graveyard. This is the first win-con. The second is requires a few less pieces, and it is Deadeye Navigator, Muldrotha, the Gravetide, and our favorite Lion's Eye Diamond. This one is a bit simpler, and it only requires flickering Muldrotha over and over with LED.

Acceleration

Since Muldrotha is a 6 mana commander, and the deck is not viable without her, acceleration is important. We mostly use mana rocks/dorks for acceleration, since there are multiple effects centered around sacrificing lands, such as Mana Vortex and Smokestack. Lion's Eye Diamond is amazing as it's 3 free mana every turn, and it helps to get Muldrotha, the Gravetide out on turn 3.
