Artifact (3)

Instant (8)

Sorcery (1)

I'm not usually a control player, but Theros brings a lot to the table in terms of counters and hand control with the Scry keyword returning. So this is my best shot at a competitive deck for post-Theros rotation.

Creatures

  • Omenspeaker - I feel that she replaces auger of bolas in competitive blue decks due to her ability to shape the outcome of the next two turns draws. She also has the same stats as her predecessor making her an expendable, yet useful, meatwall.

  • Daxos of Meletis - The driving force that inspired me to start this deck, reduced to a kind of icing on the cake addition. He is a great drop third turn that puts some serious threat on the board. It enables you to use their own deck against them, which is always fun. Plus, the life that he nets you against most decks in this slower format will make him worth it.

  • Frontline Medic - This guy is really here to be a beater with some utility. He can counter any X spell by saccing himself, so it helps against the control matchup, as well as some of the hydras in green (except Mistcutter Hydra who I'll discuss later]].

  • Council of the Absolute - Possibly my favorite card in this deck, this guy helps us get so much done in so little time. He can be used as a Nevermore of sorts and just stop your opponent from using some of the better spells in his arsenal, but will usually name either Elspeth, Sun's Champion or Sphinx's Revelation. This makes Elspeth a freakin' four-drop and gives you two free life and cards on your Revelation, all while denying your opponent from casting his own!

  • Medomai the Ageless - This guy seems like an additional win-con if you ask me, but he could easily be replaced by 2 more Elspeth, Sun's Champion. I don't do this, because Pithing Needle is, in fact, a card.

Spells

  • Stymied Hopes - Not going to go into much detail here. It's a worse Mana Leak, but it gets the job done. Sides out against blue for Gainsay

  • Dissolve - Your go-to counter...thats about it, lol. The scy is nice too.

  • Supreme Verdict - Well, it's your board-wipe. And it's perfectly on color. And it can't be countered. And it fits the curve. Lol, it's really the perfect card for this deck. Fourth turn this, fifth turn Council...GG. My friend thought an interesting combo would be to use curse of swine and Ratchet Bomb the tokens. That has merit, but Verdict is just too good not to use.

  • Sphinx's Revelation - This card wins games. That's really all you need to know. Plus, Council of the Absolute makes it cheaper...so, ya know...

  • Elspeth, Sun's Champion - This is your main win condition in this deck. She makes dudes, kills nothing in our deck (barring Medomai the Ageless ), and ends the game with her ult.

Sideboard

  • Annul - This is our answer for decks in which the Gods are a problem. Also, this sides in against any deck that is enchantment heavy.

  • Gainsay - Switches in against blue. Self-explanatory.

- Imposing Sovereign - This sides in against the aggro matchup where you need more bodies, plus her effect taps them down to buy you some extra time, which is all you need.

-Ratchet Bomb - Now, this card is a key piece of the sideboard of this deck. Mistcutter Hydra WILL tear this deck to shreds left unchecked. Luckily, no matter the number of counters, his CMC is always 1. So it only takes one counter on this to take care of him. This is also your answer to any token decks that may still be around.

-Supreme Verdict - Fourth copy in case you need it versus aggro.

As I said before, I am not a control player, but this is my best shot at it. Let me know what you think in the comments, and give me some advice. Thanks again for checking it out, and don't forget to +1!!!
