Took this deck to the local FNM Standard Constructed tournament. Went 4-0 to win the event.
This deck played well vs G/W Cats. Dominated the first game with Fumigate board wipes, and then controlled the board long enough to play Approach of the Second Sun. Next turn used Pull from Tomorrow to get Approach back for the win. Second game did not go well. Cats came out fast and swinging. Was unable to draw early game control fast enough to bring the match back. Third match I pulled my early game control, and managed the board till I was able to play Approach twice.
Went 2-0 vs W/U Monument. Gideon won the first match for me by reducing my opponent's life while I kept their creatures off the board. Game 2 started with a bit of a struggle, not pulling any win conditions for 7 turns. Finally managed to Commit/Memory and reshuffle. Pulled 2 Approach from the redraw to take game 2.
Temur Energy was my third match of the night, and by far the hardest, ending at 2-1. Took game 1 fairly easily when my opponent had a slow start and couldn't get enough creatures on the board to get past my defences before I played Approach twice. The second game they sided in lots of counterspells, and turned into a midrange/control deck. I ended up scooping this game due to a bad start and time concerns. The final game I played around his counterspells after siding in some of my counters, and managed to play Approach twice for the win.
G/B Counters was my final match of the night (2-0). Having no creatures meant my opponent had to place the counters on his creatures to build his token army, which slowed him down. Dovin Baan was MVP in the first match by shutting down Channeler Initiate, preventing him from ramping and my opponent drew poorly. The second match Gideon of the Trials took over by swinging on a clear board 5 turns in a row.
