UW Flying Artifacts

Standard WU (Azorius)

Samosa_Joe

Get a big Cephalopod Flyer and go over the top. Here's why everything's here:

Creatures:

  • Cephalopod Sentry Star of the deck. Every artifact you put on the board (or recycle with slagstone) makes him stronger.
  • Armguard Familiar Cephalopod costs 4, so this guy can get out quickly in case you match against an aggro deck. If he's still around when you get Cephalopod, you can use Reconfigure to add some protection and a minor buff to Cephalopod.
  • Runaway Trash-Bot another way to survive until Cephalopod's ready. In the lategame he can be useful again if your opponent has been killing your artifacts. He may be a little pointless if your opponent has ways to remove stuff from your graveyard.
  • Atraxa's Skitterfang Kind of does the same as Steel Seraph. If the deck doesn't work out, drop one of them first. but he can buff your other flyers with deathtouch (to discourage/remove reaching defenders) or lifelink (to extend the game if your opponent gets ahead early) or vigilance (if things are tight and you need to use Cephalopod on offense AND defense).
  • Steel Seraph An alternate flyer if you can't find Cephalopod. If you play him with 3 mana, he's a decent way to buff your other folks like Atraxa's Skitterfang does. And if you can afford to cast him for 6 mana, he's a good threat on his own.

Everything Else:

  • Slagstone Refinery this is a bit of an insurance policy to keep artifacts on the board if your opponent keeps killing your creatures. Those powerstones he create can help you pay for a full Steel Seraph or Repair and Recharge in lategame.
  • Loran's Escape Can be used to protect your cards against opponent's Removal spells. OR you can swing in with a deathtouch-buffed creature and when an opponent blocks, use this to keep your attacker alive.
  • Planar Disruption Lets you neutralize opponents flyers and reachers.
  • Repair and Recharge Can either bring back your important creatures OR bring back a Planar Disruption you've played and lost earlier in the game.

Sideboard.

This stuff I almost put in. May be worth cycling in if you don't like how the deck works.
- Tamiyo's Logbook Drawing is always good. If you end up taking out Steel Seraph or Atraxa's Skitterfang, this would be what I'd put in.
- Automated Artificer If Armguard Familiar's reconfigure cost is too much and it's not getting much use, this guy may be a better fit. play early-on to have a body on the board, and tap for casting other creatures when needed. Also good with tamiyo's Logbook.
- Cloudsteel Kirin Another alternative for Runaway Trash Bot or Armguard Familiar. Has a cheeky Reconfigure ability that turns one of your creatures into an anchor that keeps you in the game as long as you can keep it alive (with Loran's Escape)
