Planeswalker (1)

This is a prison control deck that combines Energy Field + Rest in Peace to neutralize damage while locking the opponent's graveyard. Once the combo is in place the game is won via infinite mill from Helm of Obedience, or alternately winning with Jace, the Mind Sculptor or grinding through with an effectively invincible Misthollow Griffin. The deck is further supplemented by Ensnaring Bridge, as well as a suite of counter magic including Misdirection and Force of Will, which protect your combo pieces while also pairing favorably with Misthollow Griffin.

This deck has a surprising number of things going for it, being able to hold its own against many of the tier 1 decks out there. Against most "fair" creature decks such as BUG/RUG Delver of Secrets   or the various Stoneforge Mystic variants, an early casting of Energy Field + Rest in Peace or Ensnaring Bridge can usually provide a hard enough lock to eek out an eventual win. Against graveyard decks such as reanimator, dredge, and even storm, you naturally have an advantage with 4 mainboard Rest in Peace, which you automatically will be putting into play as early as possible.

The deck runs mainly on basic lands, which means that it is able to curve out against decks that run Wasteland. Only 1 copy of Tundra is included to ensure appropriate color fixing, along with 2 copies of Karakas for matchups against Emrakul, the Aeons Torn or Griselbrand.

Sideboard

The sideboard takes advantage of Enlightened Tutor being in the main deck, thus it contains a number of single copies of useful enchantments and artifacts including Ethersworn Canonist and Thorn of Amethyst for storm matchups, Spirit of the Labyrinth for High Tide and Elves type decks, Humility for mitigating Show and Tell, and Meekstone to fight off Delver of Secrets   decks in the early game. 1 copy of Pithing Needle is included to counter the mirror of Jace, the Mind Sculptor in Miracles as well as to slow down Death and Taxes, while 4 copies of Meddling Mage are also included to counter any cards that are particularly irksome, especially against the tougher matchups such as Hypergenesis and Show and Tell.
