I'm not a huge fan of Aggro decks due to the fact that I like having cards in my hand... But I've play-tested this deck and there is a lot of value to be had in the new heroic mechanic.
Phalanx Leader
is the new Gavony Township for White/X decks... Easier to remove and harder to trigger, but it's true :( The deck seems to have very good protection with the Gods Willing and Mizzium Skin. Pretty much, in this deck, they read "1: Counter target spell. Put a +1/+1 counter on a(ll) creature(s) you control."
Fate Foretold
is an amazing way to target your creatures in order to trigger the heroic. It can either draw you into another land if you kept a two land hand, or it can draw you into your protection spells so you can go all the way. It also makes you feel a little better after getting board swept... "At least I get to draw a card."
Ordeal of Thassa
can stack up very quickly. Put it on a
Battlewise Hoplite
without summoning sickness.. he becomes a 3/3... Attack with him, he's a 4/4. He is now out of
Magma Jet
/Lightning Strike range. They have to hit him with a more valuable removal spell or else you draw two cards and swing in with a 5/5 next turn. It gets aggro with a 5/5 on turn 4, and you also get to refill your hand and find some more threats.
Fabled Hero... This guy has vast potential. Pick up your play set soon and wait for the rest of the Theros block to be released. Gods Willing on him, give him protection from whatever is in your way, then Swift Justice... He now has 2 +1/+1 counters and is a 5/4 double striking, lifelinking, power-house getting in there for 10. Perfect for racing those fast red decks ;)
Other cards worthy of note:
Cavalry Pegasus
could just finish a game. Precinct Captain with a Spear of Heliod has the potential to make you an army, forcing a board sweep without causing you to over extend. Heliod, God of the Sun was actually recommended to me by a friend and is a great mana dump, so I bumped the two Daxos of Meletis to the side, and threw the Heliod in the main. He provides less commitment to the board as well. There is no question as to whether or not you could animate him by turn 4 or 5.
The sideboard is a little harder to make for this deck than I thought. I love the 2 Mizzium Skin to provide extra help against the world of spot removal. Rootborn Defenses provides game winning potential against the control matchup if you're able to cast it against a turn 4 Supreme Verdict.
Fiendslayer Paladin
.
Voyage's End
and Daxos of Meletis come in against the big green decks that throw out Loxodon Smiter and Kalonian Tusker.
Voyage's End
could POTENTIALLY come in against a spot removal heavy deck as well to trigger
Phalanx Leader
and protect him with the same card. And lastly, Banisher Priest. Unfortunately, Oblivion Ring is no longer standard legal and Banisher Priest can help move that big guy in your way... out of your way.
As always, open to all suggestions. Except about the bestow mechanic. Too high of a mana cost! xD
