That's right. One of my most popular decks is back, post- rotation. Time to see if we can get a competitive control deck for about $80. Basically it's $50 since one Elspeth, Sun's Champion is going to cost us $30. I'm going to leave her in the maybe board, since she isn't really needed. Let's see what we can brew up!

Side note: The price says about $70, but the two Jaces aren't part of the calculation, and they're about $5 a pop, so I left room for them.

Here's why I chose the cards that I did!

AEtherspouts is a good, instant speed way to avoid damage. Not the best sweeper, but for sure is a good use of 5 mana.

Devouring Light is a good way to get rid of creatures blocking our Pearl Lake Ancient or Prognostic Sphinx so we can push some damage through. It's also a good way to get rid of a creature that is coming in for a lot of damage.

Disdainful Stroke is a great way to counter spells in the mid to late game for very cheap.

Dissolve great, cheap counterspell. With the bonus of scry 1. This spell is an automatic 4 of.

Jace's Ingenuity is a great way to draw a good grip of cards in the mid to late game, so we want to have a bunch of them!

Last Breath is a good way to remove things like Courser of Kruphix or basically anything else for very cheap.

Nullify is a good way to counter creatures or auras from the U/W Heroic decks or anything else with auras and creatures!

Weave Fate is a card I prefer more than Divination or Font of Fortunes since it's an instant, allowing me to counter something instead of tapping out on my own turn!

End Hostilities is how we clean up the board. It's no Supreme Verdict but it will have to do. It's also the only Sorcery in the deck.

Banishing Light is how we can deal with things like Planeswalkers and other things we don't have the removal for at the moment.

Jace, the Living Guildpact is how we can filter the top of our deck by getting rid of unneeded cards. If you choose to add any delve spells to the deck, his +1 ability will greatly help! His -8 ability also can work as a win condition, forcing your opponent into top deck mode while you have a full grip of 7 usually wins games.

Pearl Lake Ancient is one of our other win conditions. You can keep re-casting him, but you have to remember to tap the three lands you return to your hand first! Say you have 8 lands and Pearl Lake Ancient is targeted by Hero's Downfall. You float mana from the three lands you return, then simply tap 4 more lands and you can re-cast the spell!

Prognostic Sphinx lets us set up our draws by filtering everything we don't need or want down to the bottom of our library. As long as we have a card in our hand, this guy is untouchable by spot removal. A great way to win!

Resolute Archangel helps us get all our life back after taking hits from the opponent's creatures the entire game. It's also a 4/4 flier, which isn't too shabby.

Remember to leave a comment if you have something to say, and +1!

I made the top 4 at my first FNM with this deck! The top 4 decided to split the winnings so we could all go home, but here's how it went down:

Round 1- Sultai Whip, 1-0

Let me say that a resolved Whip of Erebos is a nightmare to deal with. He had me down to 4 in game one, and I managed to pull out of it thanks to Resolute Archangel. Game two let me stall out until time was up.

Round 2- Mardu Aggro, 2-0

I managed to get exile effects, things like Last Breath and Devouring Light for his Bloodsoaked Champions that he threw at me. I got down to a low life total, but then I stabilized. Game two had him living in fear of counter magic that I didn't have. So he would hold on to a burn spell and just not play it. I took both games fairly easily.

Round 3- Junk Reanimator, 0-1

Once again, a resolved Whip is very hard to deal with. Whenever I got a Banishing Light on the Whip, he would hit it with a Utter End. Also, I learned first hand that Siege Rhino is a very good Magic card. Game one took most of the time, and I played Resolute Archangel to tie us both at 20 life at the end of time.

Round 4- Temur, 2-0

She didn't hit green mana for a while, and I was able to counter whatever she played. She decided to just give me game two after a crushing defeat at the hands of Pearl Lake Ancient.
