Sideboard

I was missing the days of playing control with Torrential Gearhulk in standard with a flashing heavy that did work at the end of the game. I’ve found Voracious Great Shark to be a worthy successor as it intercepts an incoming creature and has good chances of living to swing for 5 the next turn.

I started playing Arena now that it is on iPad and this got me to Gold 1 in a day and is showing no signs of letting up.

It has 10 Board Killers in the deck list so you can use the nukes liberally to keep your opponent’s creatures under control. It’s also got some cheap enchants to slow up Plainswalkers and other problem creatures that managed to get on the board until you can eliminate them. More often than not you have a nuke ready by turn 3 or 4 and you have 9 more in the deck after the first one.

Shark Typhoon and Voracious Great Shark are the win condition as the deck’s desired end state is a swarm of large hungry sharks they just can’t get rid of fast enough. It looks crazy but all these cards synergise pretty well. Your opponent doesn’t want to start a counter-spell fight with Shark Typhoon out as each instant you cast on a stack creates a flying shark.

Once this deck stabilizes, it is very hard for the opponent to do anything against it. I’m still tweaking it, but I figure it was working pretty well when an opponent with a good red-black zombie deck milled himself out trying to keep himself on the board while keeping the sharks off it.
