I find it hard to cut Batterskull because I see it in every top Jeskai Control deck in the past few months. It being a creature you can return to your hand at any time, providing a fatty that also gains you life, and is unkillable.

Also, with the printing of Dig Through Time, the inclusion of only one Sphinx's Revelation became fairly ideal. It gains you life, and grants you the late game you need by also giving you a full grip.

Not unkillable. Very good maindeck inclusion given the metagame.

Tapping out, Not a good idea...Dig is strictly better.

Maybe not unkillable, but close. Instant speed bounce is the best evasion. It's also a recurring creature for when your colonnades are dead, and you have no gas. And it also provides you with gas against cards like Blood Moon

Keep the rev over a 3 dig any time

You serious? What are you playing in Modern at the moment?

Kjartan says... #9

Yes I am, Modern is the only format I play.

I have played UWR Control for ages, Pre Khans Rev was fine, now I would much rather Dig.

Dig is a great card, but 3 is overkill. sometimes a fist full of gas is better than two cards worth. I'd rather sphinx for 3 or 4 and escape death than get 2 cards when over half my deck is gas.

You also need cards that are easy to side out.

The third Dig is almost always better than Rev, Rev for 3-4 will almost never gain you life enough to save you.

I can see running 2 dig but the Rev is a dead card.

What matchup is it for?

Exactly, I have played this deck over 2.000 times against any deck in modern, and 3 digs doesn't fit a deck so slow, which is also packed with snapcasters

As I said, I can see running 2 Dig and no Rev, But if you were to run Rev it's worse than Dig.

I can see running two digs and no revs as well, but if you want three massive draw cards, (In usa control, that is) the third has to be a rev.

I run 3 Dig because I have a one of verdict and one of Anger which I like to dig for, late game I really want to draw Dig, I never feel like I need a Rev...

November 26, 2014 5:30 p.m.

Sphinx's Revelation is actually pretty solid. Sometimes you just want to draw five actual cards, whicih DIg doesn't let you do. It's not as slow as you may think. On turn 20 in a control mirror, I would much rather be drawing Sphinx's Revelation than Dig Through Time.

Rev is never for a specific matchup. It is for every matchup and no matchup at the same time. If I don't need the rev, but I'm playing against Affinity, I'll side out for Hurkyl's Recall.

November 26, 2014 5:31 p.m.

@bijschjdbcd I think the problem is that with 3-4 Snapcasters, you can't play 3 Dig. At the very least, I have been having trouble playing three copies.

I will maintain that this deck should cut the Batterskull for another Cryptic Command. It's too good not to be playing 3+.

Cryptic and Rev are horrible against Delver. I run a 3-3 split and as long as your conscious of it it doesn't ruin Mage. Mage takes one card out... Not as important as it seems, plus Mage dies a lot.

As much as I love this deck, Ithas bad match ups against the top two decks, not what I will be playing at my next event.

November 26, 2014 5:38 p.m.

Antosa says... #23

Top two decks being Delver and Pod? Or..? Because that's up for debate.

November 26, 2014 5:43 p.m.

bijschjdbcd says... #24

Delver and it variants, Scapeshift.

Pod is a decent matchup...

Affinity and Twin are also very popular on MTGO.

November 26, 2014 5:47 p.m.

I completely agree that Jeskai Control is poorly positioned against the Delver and Pod-heavy metagame. I would never be playing this deck, but regardless Cryptic Command is too powerful not to be playing. I wouldn't cut it down to less than 3 just because of Delver. Dig Through Time doesn't seem a whole lot better than Rev against Delver, and I always cut it anyway in Scapeshift.

@Antosa Pod and Delver are currently the most popular decks in the format. I'd argue that Scapeshift is more powerful than either, but those are the two most popular.
