Sideboard

Gifts Ungiven is one of the cards in magic that I believe can define a higher level of gameplay. Designing a deck to use and properly abuse it is a task unto itself, and forcing your opponent to interact with your deck in such an unusual way is a lot of fun.

Now playing control is a hard thing to do when your meta is filled with rogue decks and shifts every week XD, but Gifts Ungiven allows you to find the pieces that you need when you need them. Game 1 you can go for the Unburial Rites + Fatty. After you play game 1 you can board in answers or change your gameplan, knowing you have the gifts engine to support you. With that I present my take on this style deck. Running as a mid-range deck that uses Gifts Ungiven to basically let my opponent choose how to die.

The beauty of this is the amount of functional similarity between cards, so some cards serve the same role.

All in all I hope you guys are pulled to playtest this, and I'd love everyone's thoughts and criticisms!

Updates Add

I made top 4 and we split, so I got me a free Marsh Flats! Since I finally had success with my latest iteration I did an update.

My record was 3 -1

  • Bant Allies - I felt bad playing this guy, but his deck was neat. Just not on the same power level. 2-0

  • RDW - Turn 5 Iona, Shield of Emeria twice sealed the deal 2-0

  • Splinter Twin - he was simply too fast/consistent, and I suffered for having tuned my deck differently. 0-2

  • Affinity - Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite stopped him dead twice. 2-0
