i must admit that it is an interesting build of a Gifts Ungiven deck! to be honest, i think that you should drop 1 Abrupt Decay and add Path to Exile

Duly noted. I was wondering how to cram in Path, and that's about as good a choice as any.

Chief! You have caught the Modern Bug! Very nice build, I want to test it against my two main modern decks...what happens if I say...Slaughter Games your Gifts Ungiven ?

This, in theory, would still function as a Mystical Teachings Control deck. Also the Post-board plan is to run as a Midrange control relying less on the Reanimation suite. Hence the Geists and such.

The big problem with gifts in modern is the fact that everybody and their mother is running Deathrite Shaman , so any effective use of gifts ungiven is difficult.

I need your opinion on how to play this:

You're on the draw turn four, and you control a LotV with 4 counters, two copies of Gifts in hand. You've got a Deathrite Shaman , Breeding Pool , Godless Shrine and Grave Titan in your graveyard. You've got two Overgrown Tomb s, a Watery Grave and a plains on the board.

Your opponent has a Goblin Electromancer , has already looked at your hand with a turn one Thoughtseize , has shown you a Think Twice and a Blightning . He has a Watery Grave , Creeping Tar Pit and Sulfur Falls tapped, as well as an untapped Nephalia Drownyard .

What do you do?

Opponent has 2 cards in hand that you don't know what they are.

July 19, 2013 5:02 p.m.

@ The_Wizard Most of the decks at my LGS are rogue decks, with 1 Scapeshift and 1 Melira Pod deck. I'm the only person I've seen run Deathrite Shaman on modern night.

@ jminute14 it seems like I'm playing some sort of Grixis control deck, so I would probably go ahead and do something like this:

I get

If it plays out like that, then I'd use LotV's -2, and at his/her EoT Noxious Revival the Sin Collector , play it on my turn to make sure the coast is clear to Unburial Rites the Grave Titan next turn.

Oh, okay. Saw the competitive tag and thought it was a GP deck. Yeah, if it's just for FNM, this'll kick ass.

Ahh, nice. For reference, this happened during a playtest against Robust Harvest.

The two cards I had were a Thought Hemorrhage and a Surgical Extraction . I guess that's the beauty of any toolbox deck, the designer knows what is best in each situation because I didn't know what to do.

July 19, 2013 5:54 p.m.

@ The_Wizard Ah ok, Maybe I'll take that tag off then. As for this kicking ass, the first week I took it I had it tuned to fight off a bunch of tier 1 decks, and got stomped by all the rogue decks lol. So this is more tuned to my meta now.

@ jminute14 Haha yeah, I'm not sure if that sequence would have saved me, but you're right at least being the designer I had an idea of what was best.

This almost has the feel of Heartless Rites, minus the Heartless Summoning . Nice.

August 18, 2013 6:56 p.m.

Thanks bud, I'm not familiar with Heartless Rites decks, because I didn't play much standard during SOM and ISD.

In a perfect world with an unlimited budget what changes would you make?

September 4, 2013 4:19 p.m.

Probably mostly just lands. I like the feel of this, it's in between Rock Gifts and Control Gifts. It would probably look similar to this Perfect Scenario Gifts, or at least that's how I feel right now. Who knows maybe I'd go nuts if I actually had a larger budget, and if I did I would probably lean towards Rock Gifts with Goyfs and such.

Would you be able to give me some input on my deck Gifts of the Sun? I'm having a hard time being impartial.

September 5, 2013 6:43 p.m.

I keep a Dismember in the SB in case I need it, but I don't consistently face decks where it's better than what I run to begin with.

I love this deck, but if there is one change I wold make, I would swap Sun Titan out for Grave Titan , or a Frost Titan , or even a Primeval Titan . Sun titan's effect just doesn't work as well as the other's effects In my opinion.

I'm loving the concept of this deck though, I must say.

October 7, 2013 10:04 p.m.

I actually had all four in here at one point, but they didn't work out as well as you'd think.

Grave Titan didn't do anything besides add bodies, and was just overkill.

Frost Titan didn't stop a whole lot either besides "shutting down" one permanent, again overkill.

Primeval Titan IS MY FAVORITE TITAN!!!!!! I have the GP Charlotte Promo too, but him putting lands onto the battlefield actually wasn't all that helpful.

Sun Titan on the other hand can recur me 10 permanents, like Liliana of the Veil or Eternal Witness or lands that have been destroyed, like Celestial Colonnade .

I put a whole lot in the GY lol, so being able to recur things is a big deal.

I'd love any other suggestions!
