Well folks, this is it... The deck is finished and I'm happy with where it's at. I won't be making any more changes until the next set comes out and this is what I will be playing at Grand Prix Toronto in 2 days time. I will definitely be the underdog but it has done well against the current meta, so we'll see how it goes :)

Thanks! There will be coverage I'm pretty sure on the Magic: the Gathering YouTube and Twitch, but I'll only be shown if I end up on a feature table or if I win enough and make it to day 2 :)

Well the day is through for Grand Prix, I didn't place as well as I had hoped and didn't unfortunately make it to day 2. It was required to get 6 wins out of 9 and I only got 4. My matches went pretty well though and I feel like I played really good. I definitely surprised some people with some extraordinary plays and I got a lot of compliments for my deck. For my first Grand Prix I feel like I did really good, I learned a lot of things to be better at for next time and thought of ways to improve my deckbuilding skills. Standard is a fairly new format to me but I've decided to focus on playing it moving forward as I would like to continue to play more competitively and it's really the only format that pro level events are going to be in.

Here is a breakdown of the matches that I had today:

Round 1: 2-0 vs Esper Enchantments

I pulled out some sweet tech and won very quickly w/ quick aggro damage and finishing him off with burn over top his attempt to gain life.

Round 2: 0-2 vs G/R Goggle Ramp

This deck was awesome and he played it very well, not a great matchup for my deck but it's one that I tested against a lot and generally did okay against but it's one of the harder decks for mine to beat. He hit some good removal on my bigger creatures and played a clinch board wipe in game 2 that I wasn't able to recover from and my sideboard plans that I put in never showed up.

Round 3: 2-0 vs Bant Company

This dude was pretty good and was playing Bant Company which was said to be one of the best decks in the format right now but I absolutely obliterated him in 2 very quick matches, he couldn't fight off the onslaught of flying vampires I was sending at him.

Round 4: 0-2 vs W/U Flying

I got smoked pretty bad by this deck, he got out Dragonlord Ojutai with Always Watching and somehow managed flash Archangel Avacyn  Flip in both matches at clinch times. It was a tough loss and a turning point for the tournament for me.

Round 5: 0-2 vs B/G Eldrazi

I got paired up against one of the guys that works at my local gaming store, we knew each other and have had some great matches in the prerelease tournaments before. Really nice guy and fun to play against, both games were extremely close much like our previous encounters, game one I had him down to 1 life for like 8 turns I fended him off but couldn't draw anything offensive when I had many outs still in the deck. Game two I pulled some sweet combo tech using Insolent Neonate and Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip into revival of the Neonate and drawing just the card that I needed to win, I got some wicked compliments from some spectators that were in awe but once again I just wasn't able to draw what I needed to finish the game off. It was a great match though which was a lot of fun, his deck was really good too.

Round 6: 2-0 vs R/U Thopters

Played against a thoptor / artifact deck that was pretty sweet, it was very different from anything else that I saw in the tournament and it was the funnest match that I had all day.

Round 7: 1-2 vs G/R Eldrazi

This was another really close match as well, this guy had a really good deck with Kozilek's Return, plus ramp into World Breaker and Dragonlord Atarka. I tested a lot against this deck and it was never an easy match, my sideboard answers never showed up and I wasn't able to win game 3.

Round 8: 2-1 vs Bant Company

Trampled this guy game one and almost had him game two but he managed to gain enough life to survive and backswing. Owned him again game 3 by comboing off with Olivia, Mobilized for War like many of my matches but it feels especially good against bant coco lol

Round 9: 0-2 vs Mono White Humans

This guy was playing a pretty good mono white humans deck. At this point neither of us could get enough wins to advance to the next day and he had mentioned that he was collecting player points and that he only needed one game's worth of points to get a bye in all of the next seasons Grand Prix's so I let him have it.

All in all I would say that I learned a lot from this event and that I had a lot of fun. I am going to play in more of them for sure as well as focus on being a better deckbuilder and player in the Standard format. I may not have placed very well this time around but for my first Grand Prix it could be said that I did pretty good. It was really amazing seeing some of the pros play in person at the feature tables as well as seeing some of my favorite Magic personalities who commentate the events in person. I may not have made it on a feature table or got to play against a pro this time, but if I keep working hard at it and practicing then my time will come and someday it will happen. The biggest lesson that I learned today is to love what you do, to make sure to always have fun even when playing competitively and to never lose sight of that.

It was a lot of fun playing this deck and I want to say thanks for all of your support!

I'm sure you will be do much better next time just think of that as a learning experience.

I myself tried my Black/Red vampires deck at my local game day event and did okay in my matches.

2-0 against a mono red deck (unfortunately for them they were new).

2-0 against a mono black deck (they had little removal surprisingly and lost to flying vampires).

1-2 against essentially a mirror deck of mine. I had a lot of bad hands and ended up having to mulligan to 4 cards and still had trouble getting lands, and my Olivia's Bloodsworn and cards like that were killed by Fiery Temper so he could win with Drana, Liberator of Malakir. I won the second round after getting a 9/10 Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet and forcing him to keep blocking. He managed to kill it by the end with a Avacyn's Judgment + Lightning Axe but by then he had nothing to defend.

The third match was really close but he won in the end. I had 11 health after just taking 7 damage to Drana, Liberator of Malakir + Olivia, Mobilized for War . While he also had 11 health due to my Olivia and heir to the night. He won since he drew a mountain and had 1 mana left after spending the rest just so he could get a Falkenrath Gorger out as a blocker. I would have been able to cast my Incorrigible Youths and attack with all 3 of my creatures to do exactly 11 as his flying creatures were tapped, but he got a blocker. His Drana, and Olivia were already +1/+1 stronger so I couldn't do much else if I didn't end it there.

So I Instead I tried an Insolent Neonate to see if I could get my last Lightning Axe or one of my last 2 Fiery Temper to kill his blocker and then cast my Incorrigible Youths but I only drew a land, and so I gave up.

Then my last game 1-2 against Black/Green Eldrazi. He got out Cryptolith rite every one of our three matches turn 2... To win with Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger the first and last games. I won the second thanks to Drana, Liberator of Malakir + Olivia, Mobilized for War I had in fact let him borrow cards like Ulamog, Ulvenwald Hydra, Westvale abbeys, etc. From my other standard deck I hadn't used. He managed to place second after losing to a Green/Red ramp deck that used World Breaker, and Kozilek's Return.

But I placed in the top 8 at least, and it was overall a good time.

With PPTQ coming up I was thinking of playing W/B Control, didn't enjoy it...Then I thought maybe Mardu Reanimator, haven't settled on a build...Now I'm thinking that I really like the vampire deck and that I can make it better, so I'm working on a new build with Kolaghan's Command and mainboarded hand disruption to better deal with the meta... Hopefully it'll work out but we'll see after some more testing.

Looks good. Although I'm still unsure about Stromkirk Occultist. I definitely am using all of the other new vampires.

I'm going to give Voldaren Pariah  Flip a try perhaps since I have 1x Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet and perhaps 3x Call the Bloodline.

Cool, thanks! I've considered Voldaren Pariah  Flip as a one of in the sideboard but I'm just too worried about her getting destroy at instant speed with her ability on the stack. I'm also not set on Stromkirk Occultist and I may end up cutting it after playtesting.

Decided to replace Stromkirk Occultist with Bloodmad Vampire which has won me many games in the past.

I have also my version of vampire deck it came from SBMtg on youtube and it also look like this B/R Vampire Madness by SBMtg (Standard Mtg Deck). But anyways this is really good, gonna recommend it to my friends.

Vampires are certainly the way to go! But have you considered what to do in mid-range or late game situations? Vampires are quick and brutal, but have you thought of splashing other types like dragons or humans? Olivia will make them vampires anyways so you will still have decent synergy. It also looks like your look for massive board sweep. Sadly to say cards like Languish and Radiant Flames is our worst enemy. Two to three Vampires are enough to have in play, and when having a card like Stromkirk Occultist in play you're slowing pacing the game. You need a win condition like Liliana. Skill players know how to catch on to aggro within the first 2 turns. Check out my deck when you get time... http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/kolaghans-vamps-mobilized-for-madness/
