Sideboard

Vannifar "Combo" deck that tries to string together wins in a single turn.

The deck has a few ways to go from a nearly empty board-state to a lethal combat step with a single Vannifar activation. Fastest Combo turn is on turn three with the following:

  • Turn One cast a Llannowar Elf/Elvish Mystic

  • Turn Two cast Crashing Drawbridge

  • Turn Three cast Prime Speaker Vannifar. Activate Drawbridge to give Vannifar Haste. Activate Vannifar sacrificing mana dork to pod in Corridor Monitor untapping Vannifar. Pod Monitor into Extraction Specialist. Extraction Specialist enters and returns Corridor Monitor to the battlefield untapping Vannifar. Repeat sequence until all remaining copies of Extraction Specialist are in play. Once all Specialists are in play, continue podding Corridor Monitor into Glasspool Mimic and have it enter as a copy of Specialist to also pull all copies of Mimic into play. Repeat for Renegade Rallier. Use the final Corridor Monitor trigger to untap Crashing Drawbridge. Activate Drawbridge and swing in combat with potentially 9 creatures for 27 damage total, 21 of which is lifelink.

Similar line can be done on turn four without a haste enabler for the Vannifar on turn three. Follow the same steps of podding a mana dork into a Monitor and so forth until the last Renegade Rallier brings back the Monitor. Final Vannifar activation pods Corridor Monitor into Tuktuk Rabblefort.

  • This line can also change drastically if you have a Extraction Specialist/Mimic/Rallier/Corridor Monitor in hand.

  • If Monitor in hand, cast it untapping Vannifar and pod any three drop other than Rubblefort into Jetmir, Nexus of Revels and swing for considerably more damage.

  • If Specialist/Mimic/Rallier, cast it to return Corridor Monitor from the graveyard to play untapping Vannifar and following the same steps as above.

The deck can "grind if it needs to. Voice of Resurgence is fantastic in conjunction with Eldritch Evolution, Vannifar, or Neoform to order out Extraction Specialists and also create Elemental tokens on sac. In weird board-states, the Elemental token can be podded into a one-drop to start chains.

Some card choice explanations:

  • Extraction Specialist's Lifelink is incredibly helpful when noodle-ing and trying to find pieces.

  • Prosperous Innkeeper is a bit odd, but has solved a lot of issues in some games; whether it be to just incrementally gain life or to fix mana with the Treasure token. If in play during a "chain", he can pull you even further ahead. Dude's a star, but don't really need more than one though. Run however many you want though. I'm not your boss.

  • Jetmir, Nexus of Revels can play a simulacrum of Craterhoof Behemoth...sorta. He can lead to absolute blowouts or massive life swings.

  • Fblthp, the Lost: He kinda sucks, but sometimes you just need to draw a card...or pod into him to draw two cards. Or pod him into a Extraction Specialist to draw another card.
