Could consider dropping some self mill instants/sorceries for self mill creatures like Screeching Skaab . Just my take on it.

wel i dont think you will use that mana ability on Deathrite Shaman too much. but just giving yourself the option in case you need to is nice. as such, Drown in Filth doesnt get hosed too badly if at all. but the Screeching Skaab can definitely go. i would personally go with Gravecrawler as you never mind dumping him. he is a good scavenge target as well as a great recursion engine... especially with Diregraf Captain .

Very nice jermtube! Looks great. +1 from me, though I do have two recommendations for you.
1.) You should pull the 1x copy of Corpsejack Menace for another copy of Jarad's Orders . Since Varolz, the Scar-Striped already lets you put soooooooo many counters on your creatures, having another copy of Jarad's Orders for a tutor effect would likely be more beneficial than the Corpsejack Menace . Plus, in my experience he doesn't last on the field for long. Draw/tutor effects go a LOOOooong way towards making a deck consistent in its plays. And a reliable deck is a powerful deck. :)
2.) Since you aren't running any sort of mana-ramp aside from the heavily conditional use from Deathrite Shaman , you should consider swapping Drown in Filth for Mulch . As a two drop, it's not as mana intensive (only requiring one specific color instead of two), and does wonders to guarantee a land drop on turn 3. That can seriously help with this deck, by putting out Varolz, the Scar-Striped as early as possible. Or having Skaab Ruinator mana early on in the game. :) Also, Mulch is fantastic at saving you from dead draws, by pulling out chunks of mana-pockets and putting them in your hand. :) SUPER useful for a deck like this.
Otherwise, very nicely done. I approve! :D

Xindlepete, good points there. i just feel uncomfortable with the lack or removal the deck has. still, i'll give it a go and see how it works for me, since i've heard Mulch is a good card in this build from several people.

How about some Treacherous Pit-Dweller ? Could help a lot cost wise for counters and could possibly replace some Deathrite Shaman for bigger dudes. I'd say chunk half the Shamans to the sideboard along with enchantment and artifact removal against Rest in Peace and Tormod's Crypt , a la Abrupt Decay and Naturalize .

PenitentKnight, i haven't even thought about sideboard stuff yet! but yea i always knew i needed some sort of enchantment removal, especially with this sort of deck. others have brought up Treacherous Pit-Dweller , and yea its definitely a great Scavenge source. i'm still playing around with everything so i haven't forgotten about that demon creature.

killkong1211 thanks, the deck list has evolved quite a bit thanks to everyone's creative criticism and suggestions. i'm proud of what i got here, i'm still fine tuning it but i can't see it changing too dramatically at this point!

Excellent, well, keep us informed of how well it performs. I'm really interested to see how it turns out :)

Chronic Flooding in the place of Forbidden Alchemy
Also squeeze in diregraf goul (better than Gravecrawler as a scavenge target, as there is no opportunity cost.)
May 30, 2013 7:11 a.m.
Schuesseled, i like Forbidden Alchemy because it lets me keep a card from the lot that would get milled out, so its a psuedo-tutor, along with Grisly Salvage . a good point with Diregraf Ghoul , though, since the Gravecrawler can't block and the Ghoul comes in tapped. other than that, there's not too much of a difference.. i could possible have 1x Gravecrawler and 2x Diregraf Ghoul s and see what happens.

Have you considered Boneyard Wurm ? With all the milling going on, you can easily scavenge that onto say Lotleth Troll . Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord should be a decent finisher in your deck as well. Mulch is also another potential self-milling card.

Since you have blue, Tracker's Instincts can be quite useful as well. But if you are playing that you really want to cut down on non-flashback-able spells. Another great card that you might have overlooked: Gnaw to the Bone .
June 6, 2013 11:41 a.m.
ShimmerVoid, the Boneyard Wurm was considered but i stuck with Splinterfright because of its Trample. they're both great Scavenge targets once my graveyard is loaded up, but if i NEED to have one of the two creatures onto the field (and sometimes i prefer them in the graveyard), that Trample made the difference. it sucks putting all this effort into pumping a creature up, only to have it blocked and get no damage through. at least some of it rolls over onto the opponent, and when the creatures become 17/17s, its all good with me.

Just a note that you can't sacrifice Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord for his own Fling ability, as it says "another creature". You have plenty of other good creatures to sac' though, looks like fun.
June 12, 2013 3:53 p.m.
good eye Greatsword , i haven't actually tried it yet so i was unfamiliar with the interaction. sacrificing a 17/17 Splinterhead looks like a good idea, though.

Goldbloodedsf no, i might have a Dreg Mangler but probably not since they're in this deck

I've been testing the deck and I like it quite a bit. Thoughts on Tragic Slip , Putrefy and Abrupt Decay ? I think I'd take out Prey Upon and maybe a Forbidden Alchemy for some combination of those. I find myself not really using Prey Upon (although it does work nicely with Diregraf Captain) and I draw in to Alchemy more than I would like to. I'd also be interested to see how Vraska the Unseen plays rather than Liliana.

If you find yourself sac'ing things to Varolz, Tragic Slip can be great. Otherwise, stick to the Putrefy and Abrupt Decay . How are the Deathrite Shaman working for you? What do you end up using them for? I can't really see Vraska the Unseen working better than Liliana of the Veil in this deck.

putting Golgari Charm in the sideboard would not be a bad idea, because most people in white have Rest in Peace in the sideboard.

It also works as a great counter against boardwipes like Supreme Verdict

dandugg, killkong1211, thanks so much for your input here. typically, i use Jarad's Orders to throw a Skaab Ruinator into the graveyard, either to cast into play or to Scavenge, and i bring to my hand whatever is necessary for the moment: so yes its used as a tutor combo. perhaps i'd be comfortable with strictly Scavenging Boneyard Wurm after there are more than 3 creatures other than itself in the graveyard to make that 2 mana cost well worth it. as for removal, i never really considered Drown in Filth , i just want to make sure there are enough land cards in the graveyard to make it worthwhile after Deathrite Shaman exiles a few in order to regenerate Lotleth Troll s, etc. Tribute to Hunger was included for some life gain and the possibility to get rid of indestructible creatures instead, but i will most definitely be tweaking this deck and seeing how efficient i can make this run. thanks again for your comments: do you have suggestions on what to remove to make way for Boneyard Wurm ? i'd like to see how well i can use it as a Scavenge target.
