UPDATE!

I've been busy with my sideboard, configuring the most likely matchups. All SB strategies are in the description for the ones who are interested/want to help. Any criticism would be welcome as i've far from mastered this specific art.

Wow, this deck is pretty much perfect now lol

I hope your ready for some changes :)

gaaaaaaahhhhhgrghhghg. moar options >.>

That paladin btw is gonna raise some sick knight+SoFaF decks. Also I hate the fact that they are coming out with yet another sword (of war and peace, pro red/white)... That shit is just broken wizards, stop pushing it! Caw-Go is powerful enough as it is.

One thing i encountered during playtesting a bit is that venser's +2 ability finds very little targets, i want to throw back in the Sea Gate Oracle . The only thing i can think of to drop though is 1 Glimmerpoint Stag , perhaps a Tumble Magnet . What are your opinions?

You should add a couple copies of Gideon. He combos well with many of the cards in the deck, most notably Sunblast Angel. And Venser can bounce him in case his number of loyalty counters gets low.

@Reidmar

Yes, I'm aware of Gideon Jura 's power in this deck! The problem is that i don't own any and i think it's too expensive to buy it now while it rotates out this june or so. thanks for thinking along though, he would be great against the current meta. While i have your attention btw, let me know what you think of what i siggested in comment #108? thanks in advance!

I do not believe Gideon Jura gets rotated out till October when the new set(after 2012 core set, can not remember the name of that set) along with the 2011 core set. Here is a insert from the announcement of the 2012 core set.

Standard rotates once each year, with the release of the October large set. Magic 2012 will enter Standard on its release without knocking anything out, then Magic 2011 and Zendikar block will leave Standard with the release of "Shake." The Standard format between Magic 2012 and "Shake" will consist of Zendikar block, Scars of Mirrodin block, Magic 2011, and Magic 2012. After the release of "Shake," it will consist of Scars of Mirrodin Block, Magic 2012, and "Shake."

I hear ya, Jesse. I didn't know how small your budget was. I'm also designing a relatively cheap control deck that can be found at "bw-control-63". Gideon would fit well in it also, but I'm trying to avoid using him.

I'm new to linking in these comments. The proper link is bw control.

It says "the next end step"...

Does that mean if this effect is activated on my turn then a card is returned onto the battlefield on the end step of the turn directly after mine (my opponents) or on my next turn. Because it doesn't say my next turn.

April 9, 2011 12:36 p.m.

TylerJohns says... #15

Sorry about the punctuation and stuff, that first sentence is worded all types of wrong.

It says "the next end step (glimmerpint and venser)

Does this mean that, if that effect is activated on my turn, the exiled card returns on the end step of the turn directly after mine (my opponents)? Or does it come back on MY next end step, because if so, they should reword the effect on the card.

br2win says... #16

@TylerJohns, No, technically when you use venser's ability and glimmerpoints etb affects, they ar played during main phases. Than you end your turn after all the phases are done(untap, upkeep, draw, main phase, attack phase, spells and abilities, blocking phase, spells and abilities, than damage, 2nd main phase, end phase) So since these both abilities happen before the end of your turn, "the next end step" is your end step. I hope this makes any sense, and hope it helped.

Trakanon says... #17

If you exile a Stag with Venser, it returns doing your end step. That triggers the Stag's enter-the-battlefield effect, which will exile another card. That card returns to the field at the beginning of the next end step, not the current end step, which would be during your opponents end step (usually).

Savage1988 says... #18

Trakanon is right here. As the effect says at the bginning of the next end step, that means that when the stag you exiled with venser comes back at the beginning of your own end step, its ability will only then trigger, by which time you are beyond the beginning of your own end step, causing the stag's ability to end at the beginning of the next turn's endstep, thus removing a threat from the opponent's board for a whole turn. Hope this clarifies. I doubt it, but i tried :p

On a side note; i just got my 3rd Venser on paper :D so close now .

Savage1988 says... #23

@zeron: thx, don't forget to vote ;)

@jarrod: far from the truth, these things you say :

The hawk gives you badass cardadvantage. They serve as chump blockers to protect planeswalkers mostly, not for attacking. The fact that you get 4 of them with drawing one is insane. Also it thins out the deck, giving me more chance of getting to the good stuff.

Leonin Relic-Warder may provide more fun with Venser than Revoke Existence

April 18, 2011 2:47 p.m.

Savage1988 says... #25

It might, but it's also way more vulnerable and costs WW. Still thanks for thinking along though.
