My attempt at a modern deck involving ETB effects with Venser, the Sojourner as the glue which ties it together.
The main idea is to put up an early defense or exile their early threats until you reach mid-game and start the shenanigans.
CORE CARDS:
Venser, the Sojourner - The man, the myth, the Sideburns. His +2 and -8 are the big players for the deck, but with some off the larger creatures I have, cough Sun Titan cough, his -1 cannot be forgotten. There are very few cards in this deck which don't bring substantial benefit from the +2.
Wall of Omens
- ETB Card Draw, 0/4 wall for 1W. Early wall and card advantage.
Oblivion Ring / Detention Sphere - White's best ETB control cards.
Stonehorn Dignitary - The main guy to stop all attacks.
Mimic Vat - Excellent deterrent for removal of your ETB creatures. Combos nicely with
Day of Judgement
Sun Titan - Brings back all the fun things from the graveyard and is one of the win-cons with the 6/6 vigilance body.
Serum Visions - Modern's legal form of Preordain, smooth those draws out.
Clever Impersonator/Phantasmal Image - Extra bounces, get their best thing.
Gideon Jura - The one and only "Come at me Bro" PW. The most expensive Fog. However, if he lives the first round, his value rises exponentially.
Sideboard:
Leyline of Sanctity - Best sideboard card in the world.
Lone Missionary
- 4 life gained for 1W and ETB. Good way to help against early agro or burn.
Stony Silence - Stop Affinity.
Dovin Baan - Good for control matchup, also for single target control.
Grafdigger's Cage - Graveyard Hate.
Spreading Seas - Tron, Infect, Land hate.
Lavinia of the Tenth - Just brutal detain if she lands/lives.
