Okay, so I took out my mainboard answers to make room for ways to search for combo pieces I'm missing (since sitting there unable to do anything waiting turn after turn for a good topdeck is the main reason this deck loses).

It seems to have helped a lot, but I am still debating if I want to make room for Spoils of the Vault or not. I just foresee it backfiring in many situations, so I am a little torn on the idea. It's a very powerful tutor though, so I can see it winning just as many games as it loses (hopefully). Thoughts?

Need advice! My maybeboard keeps growing haha, and nobody has offered any opinions on how to fit any cards in (or if they are even worth it). The deck is essentially green/black right now, so feel free to suggest cards that are different colors too, as I have 4 bounce lands waiting to become a useful color (they are red for the simple fact I can use it for Vexing Shusher sometimes).

I will update the deck description tomorrow probably, so ignore the fact that some cards vary from the description to the current decklist. Going to bed for now.

It seems to have helped a lot, but it still feels like something is missing. I'd like to lower the count on Plunge into Darkness to 2 (and possibly put Ancient Stirrings back down to 3), but I can't really come up with anything else to add in their place. Thoughts?

Ugh idk, I am happy with everything in the deck other than those 2 last slots that are currently Oracle of Mul Daya . It just feels like I need an under-priced threat that is resistant to burn for that slot. I tried out Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip but he just dies to every single removal spell (and does nothing all that relevant the turn he is played pretty much), so he wasn't what I was looking for.

Can anyone think of a decent creature for that slot as my mid-range threat for games when I don't have an amulet (preferably green so I can search it up with Summoner's Pact but I'll consider all suggestions)? I'm out of ideas, have been trying to find a suitable card for that slot for a while now. But at least I have realized it needs to be a threat with around a 4 CMC cost through all the play-testing.

I changed Oracle of Mul Daya out for Thrun, the Last Troll for now, since he seemed like the best fit for what I wanted the slot for. I am still open to suggestions though, as I'm not all that familiar with green creatures, since I'm usually a blue player haha.

It also doesn't really have to be a 4 cost green creature, I just like that since it lets me search it with Summoner's Pact in a pinch. Anything from 3-5 CMC that is pretty much any color can be considered for the slot, so go nuts. It can be an enchantment, a sorcery, anything. It just needs to have some sort of impact on a game where I've established little to no board presence against as many decks as possible. Right now Thrun, the Last Troll covers control and aggro decks fairly well in that slot, but I already have pretty decent match ups against them, so I am definitely willing to replace him.

Thanks in advance for any help

He's not the same since his standard days, but hear me out: Thragtusk . You can afford the mana and that life and extra blocker are just what it sounds like you need.

hmm, thanks. He's basically the same as Thrun, the Last Troll except if I last longer I can gain life. Hmm...

I'll have to see what works best, ty.

There's also Courser of Kruphix ....he's been performing quite well in a couple Modern decks (some Jund variants, one Super-Friends deck we've put together, etc.) It's relatively similar to Oracle of Mul Daya ; however it has 4 toughness (which is huge), is a 3-CMC, and gains you some life...also, it helps you cycle through your deck if you have lands on top (and works well with Azusa, Lost but Seeking and Summer Bloom ). Anywho, just a thought....great deck!

Hmm, that's another good idea, thanks. I'll have to try em both out.

Okay, after some quick playtesting, it seems like Thragtusk was just too high of a CMC for that slot (Sorry about that, I thought I could last to turn 4-5 with no presence and be able to recover, boy was I wrong). When I needed that board presence turn 4 or I died, he just didn't come through, and when he did come through, it wasn't all that much more of an impact than Thrun, the Last Troll would have made - sometimes even less, since he is vulnerable to removal in comparison (and less toughness).

Courser of Kruphix on the other hand, seemed to come through and pull me out of dangerous situations more than I expected. The library digging feature really was useful in some situations, but the lack of resistance to Path to Exile etc. in comparison to Thrun, the Last Troll made me decide one of each is probably the best decision, for now at least. They both are more useful than the other in differing situations, and since Summoner's Pact lets me tutor for the one I need if it comes down to being that desperate, I don't really mind running one of each. I might make it 2 Courser of Kruphix if I see him being more useful than Thrun, the Last Troll in almost every situation, but for now I think I'll leave it at one of each. Thrun, the Last Troll is almost like the AEtherling of green, so I have a soft spot for him probably. I just really like the fact that he is near impossible to remove, so he does help in those matches where they just swing with Snapcaster Mage s and Dark Confidant s and have excess removal spells.

Surprisingly easy to play-test for problem situations like this, just took out my amulets and played with 56 cards haha.

no no no, if you want a green version of AEtherling you need to add Thornling lol, granted I think Thrun, the Last Troll is better, but still, a green AEtherling , or go red for Torchling

Haha I knew that was coming, I even had a don't say it's Thornling message typed out in parentheses, but edited it out.

Thornling is definitely fun though, I've used him in a green/black self mill deck with Necrotic Ooze that did some really broken things.

Anywho, I digress, yeah Thrun, the Last Troll seems a lot better for the spot haha.

+1 Does Halimar Depths have a home here as a one of or two of?

Lookin' good.

Not really, as I don't want to include tapped lands unless they offer something really worth while. It's also blue, which is a fairly useless color to me. I'd have to remove a land to make room for it, which is where the problem lies. I already had to remove Kessig Wolf Run to make room for Tolaria West when I re-added blue, which was a really hard decision.

Basically, my land base has the following lands set in stone as they are 100% needed:

9x bounce lands (colors can change - Boros Garrison is needed though)

1x Vesuva

2x Slayers' Stronghold

1x Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion

3-4x Forest (Blood Moon really hurts)

Everything else is supplemental, win-more if you will, and can be replaced if there's better things.

However, if I do free up the 2 spots in my sideboard, I could possibly move Forest to the sideboard for some other lands, I'll have to toy around with that idea too I guess.

Thanks for the unintentional idea haha.

No worries, I wasn't too sure with Tolaria West there, but now I also notice the Pact.

Meh, still looks good! How's it been doing?

Basically undefeated (in best of 3s) unless I get screwed by bad draws or have to mulligan to death. Couldn't really ask for more.

I've actually won some games by turn 4 where I've mulligan'd to 3-4 cards, so it can still be really explosive even in tough situations like that. I really like it, although my only complaint is the amount of people that quit after game 1 when I'm trying to playtest changes because of the "bullshit" I pull.

Damn. I mean, don't you just hate it when ppl win games with perfectly legal, well thought out bullshit? Yeah, that's always a funny little thing poor losers say. Glad it's going well!

nbarry223 says... #22

Yeah, Tolaria West can also get Chalice of the Void and Engineered Explosives (just thought of that one actually) in the sideboard. It's almost on par with Mosswort Bridge as a utility land. It's not re-usable like Mosswort Bridge or else it would probably be just as effective (if not, more-so).

Hehe. Love the flavor text for Vesuva . Anyways, I'll stop cluttering your comments!

That's pretty sweet actually (I'm back! I lied!). I really like unique decks and this is that.

Awesome job with it. Hope it keeps going well for you! I've never really played with green too much tbh. Not sure why, but this along with various dredge decks makes me want to take the plunge.

I love Tolaria West, awesome awesome card.

No worries, I hide them in the update thing every once in a while, People have gone off topic plenty of times, and I don't mind it, as long as it is constructive in some way (otherwise I'll just delete them, like I do to my own comments to "edit" them since we lack that feature).
