Yeah he's sick in Teneb and any deck that wants dudes in the yard. He's also just gas in deck that want +1/+1 counters on your stuff.

Hey, um, it's nightcrawler22 from that game we just played? I wanted to say thanks for the help and that this deck is awesome! Sorry I couldn't say it earlier but my computer decided to crash right after the game :/ Anyway, thanks and I'll do your deck justice in my future EDH endeavors!

Haha, I'm glad I was able to help! Best of luck and if you make your version tag me in the description so I can see it.

I was thinking about converting it to a Standard deck so I personally can get more enjoyment out of it, but yeah sure I'll give it a whirl!

Have you ever considered Athreos, God of Passage? He would provide a way to drain your opponents life, as people rarely want your cards coming back.

January 7, 2017 9:50 a.m.

Yeah I tried him for a while but giving people the option to put them back in my hand is bad because if I want to reanimate them then I can't. He's generally a bad card for EDH because he gives the control over your strategy to your opponents.

I guess that would be bad. I usually don't worry about giving my opponents options because I use nekusar as my commander, but I see how that can backfire.

January 7, 2017 12:53 p.m.

Lol Nekusar can be really brutal and you give your opponents tons of options via extra cards but they usually die too fast for it to matter. As you can see, I have decks built in every color combination possible almost so I dabble in lots of different strategies.

Thanks dude! How'd you find it? Just looking for Vish kal decks?

I've been thinking, have you ever considered Sword of Vengeance or other effects that give trample?

February 21, 2017 5:10 p.m.

Sure, but I don't like attacking or winning via the combat step and I hate the art on Sword of Vengeance so I don't play it. It's much easier to win in interesting ways that don't involve attacking, which is why I recently removed Lightning Greaves too. I'd rather use Vish Kal as a sac outlet to abuse and remove creatures than just to attack with.

Fair enough, I just figured he could get really big really quick. I personally never attack when I play EDH, so I know that feeling.

February 21, 2017 7:01 p.m.

Oh yeah he can get gigantic instantly, but the art on SoV is just too terrible. Nice to hear somebody else also doesn't like attacking.

February 21, 2017 7:10 p.m.

Yeah very few people can claim that their deck was working so well that they felt bad that their opponents don't have chance to win. This deck is brutal and I'd really scared to play against it as you can basically demolish me with ease even with this tamed version. Well done! I'm afraid of you now. You were all sweet and lovely with your big unbreakable green monster deck and now you are snuffing the life out of all my creatures before they can they can fight back. I love your deck but man you know make them hard to beat.

If you look at the win stats for this and other decks on my profile page youll see it hasnt lost frequently. Its a beautiful deck and probably my favorite.

January 13, 2018 9:52 a.m.

Yeah I did notice that while writing my comment. Yeah it's a really successful deck and the mechanics are the best. It is hateful in the most majestic way. I love this deck but it is always going to be scary.

Any reason you don't run Horobi, Death's Wail? I trust you're aware that it combos with your commander?

May 3, 2018 9:07 p.m.

I am aware but Id just never thought about it for some reason. I was actually just thinking about Horobi as a general though. It would be insanely busted with Vish Kal. Thanks for the suggestion.

Absolutely beautiful deck in both form and function, I'm building a similar deck and your pictures and description are convincing me to take out certain Staples like demonic tutor and go for more randomness and synergy. Great job here!

I think I like the deck? I never liked the card’s art tho... lol. It says Battlecruiser is a general strat, but what about Voltron? I’ve been looking for a fun Voltron guy, and Orzhov is a boss color combo. +1!

May 7, 2019 8:14 a.m.

Thanks. I mean, the art is completely changed as mine is an alter. Voltron is wholly unnecessary for Vish Kal as you can make him easily big enough to 1-shot people just by sacing creatures to him. His abilities naturally lend him to a control/reanimating/combo strategy as well. He’s a very dynamic commander.

Yeah, I think the only thing that turns me away is his relatively high CMC. I tend to like decks focused wholly around commanders, but usually to a point where I can get them out turn 2-3, like Alesha or Yuriko. That being said I’m guessing you’ve been able to get him out turn 4 or 5 with no kickbacks, which isn’t terrible IMO.

I also meant to ask about the absence of creatures like Phyrexian Dreadnought .

May 7, 2019 10:48 a.m.

I’m not playing to win at the expense of playing fun and interactive magic. Phyrexian Dreadnought just makes Vish Kal big and dies with nothing else interesting. It doesn’t synergize with many other things like Teysa, and I’m not interested in fatties for the sake of fatties. I rarely actually kill people with commander damage even though I could. There are far more interesting possibilities available in this deck.
