I didn't forget, Atony1400, but I'm still trying to stay in the SOI block.

Oh yeah, sorry about that Panzerforge!

I LOVE this deck. I'm all about theme decks and story decks. I definitely want to make a deck like this but I do have one question. What is the Vessel of Volatility for? Again a very fun deck, +1!

Panzerforge says... #4

Metrion, I'm running Vessel of Volatility for a couple reasons.

1.) It's a self-sacrificing Enchantment, which is great for helping with delirium.

2.) The quick ramp helps to pay for the large meld cost on Hanweir Battlements.

In fact, if I'm foolishly lucky, and have 2x Vessels on the table, I can cast and meld both halves of Hanweir, the Writhing Township in one turn, and attack with it due to it having haste.

Thanks for the feedback!

Ah ok, that makes total sense now, I never thought of the meld cost, my bad. Thanks for responding!

Have you considered dropping the 5 enchantments and add a playset of Nahiri, the Harbinger and one Emrakul, the Promised End?

July 31, 2016 3:25 p.m.

Panzerforge says... #7

That does sound potent, TigerAce77, though not quite my style. (and pretty high on the budget)

As-is I use the enchantments for ramp, removal, and protecting. I would lose these aspects with Nahiri.

I would like to try that setup though, just to see how it plays.

I mean a planeswalker is essentially a harder to remove enchantment with a free spell each turn. Its just a thought to give your deck another out over simply concentrating only on your creatures. But I know those 5 cards wouldn't make your deck budget for sure.

Love the deck, however, +1!

Have you tried Always Watching , I feel like the additional strength and vigilance would be strong.

August 6, 2016 11:52 a.m.

Panzerforge says... #10

DSTravis86, I have tried that out, but a common victory condition for me has come from sacrificing my 1-drop creatures to trade them for stronger token creatures. (3/2 Eldrazi Horrors)

Extricator of Flesh gives my Eldrazi vigilance, which includes Hanweir, the Writhing Township.

Always Watching DOES help me with my Hanweir Garrisons, but I've found Nahiri's Machinations works a bit better.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my deck!

Have you thought about Skin Invasion  Flip?

It is a very nice card to slam on your Hanweir Garrison to give your opponents less incentive to block or an opponents creature to force them to attack each turn. You could even put it on creatures you are going to sacrifice for your Extricator of Sin / Flesh! It also allows you to defend against flyers more (and fly over ground creatures too)! It is a massive powerplay and one of my favorite cards in the SOI block!

You could cut your faith unbrokens, since theyre slow to cast and easy to remove (either kill the enchantment itself or the creature its enchanting and you have your exiled creature back...), Skin Invasion would do a lot more (and earlier) than faith unbroken could do, I think. It also adds more versatility.

Panzerforge says... #12

I agree completely, Manemaan, and that might just be the fix I've been looking for.

Most games I've found that I simply discard Faith Unbroken to pay Tormenting Voice's discard cost. Which wasn't all bad, it gave me two card types for delirium and I drew two cards.

I think there was only one game out of 10 that I cast it for the actual effect, and it was a late-game "insult to injury" when it enchanted Hanweir, the Writhing Township.

Now I'm going to have to read up to find out if a card like Skin Invasion  Flip counts only the front side's card type for delirium (which I think is the case) or both (which would be really nice...)

Thanks for taking the time to look through my deck, and giving a great suggestion Manemaan!

...and it's as I thought.

"711.4a While a double-faced card is outside the game, in a zone other than the battlefield, or on the battlefield with its front face up, it has only the characteristics of its front face."

Dang.

Skin Invasion  Flip still seems the better choice, and comes from the Nahiri/Emrakul side of the set, which is also a plus.

Manemaan says... #14

That's too bad, but the enchantment cardtype is pretty good for delirium in your deck!

Otherwordly outbreak is nice, but do you think skin invasion is better? You might make skin a 3 or 4 of and cut otherwordly outbreak accordingly, to have more flying coverage and 2 extra toughness.

Otherworldly Outburst has synergy with Extricator of Flesh, and, quite frankly, I love the artwork on it.

That being said, I'm still going to have to hunt down a few copies of Skin Invasion  Flip to replace those Faith Unbrokens.

Do you think Lone Rider  Flip deserves a place in this deck?

August 7, 2016 12:23 p.m.

Panzerforge says... #17

It had a place in the sideboard originally for helping with high damage output burn decks, Delta-117, but was taken out in favor of the faster Chaplain's Blessing.

That being said, Chaplain's Blessing + Lone Rider is a highly effective combo for another deck.

I've checked out some other cards that could help your deck with closing out a game and could replace some cards you have.

There's Borrowed Grace, which can buff most of your creatures out of kozileks return range or in case of hanweir out of languish range. It also could act as a finisher by buffing your creatures +2/0 before the damage step! It is a good replacement for blessed alliance (what does that card do for you anyway, except for occasionally sacrificing an attacking creature?) in my opinion.

Then there's Breakneck Rider  Flip. It is a human that triggers Thalia's lieutenant and follows your theme, adding another fun story twist in its transformation to a werewolf, which in turn buffs ALL of your attacking creatures (hanweir and eldrazi tokens too!) AND gives them trample! Worth testing out?

Finally, you could check out Collective Defiance, it adds more versatility than incendiary flow, Collective Effort for a mass pump of +1/+1 counters, enchantment removal and !big threat! removal, and Gryff's Boon for consistent recurring evasion and flying blockers.

August 7, 2016 3:32 p.m.

Panzerforge says... #20

I ran Collective Defiance for removal, Manemaan, and took it out in favor of the more potent Declaration in Stone, and the exile ability of Incendiary Flow has paid off quite a bit in my local meta against a very annoying mana symbol bmana symbol u Zombie deck.

I specifically didn't want any of the fair-weather werewolves like Breakneck Rider  Flip. I had been running a werewolf deck locally and it was really easy for my opponents to force them to flip. Collective Effort and Blessed Alliance both fit into the same role, with the lifegain option of Alliance proving to be an unwelcome surprise for many opponents.

Gryff's Boon was/is on my consideration table to replace Faith Unbroken, and may still replace Slayer's Cleaver in my sideboard.

LOVE the deck so +1!

I just wanted to ask, why the Desperate Sentry? Yes, when he dies you get the 3/2 eldrazi horror, but do you get the delirium a lot?

Also, why is Thraben Gargoyle  Flip used?

Please don't take this the wrong way because I actually love the deck just asking a few questions. :)

If the Thraben Gargoyle  Flip isn't doing much, I think take it out for 2 more Thalia's Lieutenant's because those are just GREAT! If you want, I think you should take out the Desperate Sentry for 2 more Thraben Inspectors because Hanweir has had some reports of not-nice things and maybe 1 Thalia, Heretic Cathar or Breakneck Rider  Flip just something that really WOWS the opponent.

Again, I do love the deck and so please take this the "right" way.

Well, that's me.

Panzerforge says... #22

poopiepoopiepants1, your first and second questions are actually related.

I use Desperate Sentry because it's characterful, is really annoying to block, and I DO get delirium often.

How? With the help of my 1-drop Thraben Gargoyle  Flips. These little guys are great. I put one on the table, sac it when Extricator of Sin ETBs, and add two card types toward delirium.

That's half way there with one card. (or 3/4 if I discard it with Tormenting Voice, and draw 2!)

Thanks for the time, and the compliments!

I liked the look of this so much that I actually built it verbatim. Its playing great and I love all of the mechanics you came up with. I have one question for you. Did you ever experiment with <> on the sideboard to be swapped with your <>? I did this and I was able to use either <> or <> to get it to flip turn 2 or 3. 4/4 first strike, trample, lifelink isn't to shabby. Thanks so much for putting this together. Its awesome.
