Thanks for commenting jamesfiek! Waste Not would however not suit this deck as i have no use for neither the tokens nor the mana ramp.

If you are forcing discard why aren't you running at least a couple Liliana's Caress?

smprfi2112, I recently ran a slightly different setup with 3x Liliana's Caress, trading out 1x Browbeat and 2x Shrieking Affliction thinking that Caress would speed things up a little, but the 2 CMC mana cost was not actually worth it. The Rack and Shrieking Affliction are easier to cast as a second spell on your turn, and can be cast in multiples late game. Liliana's Caress has to be cast early game to be effective, giving your opponent a turn without any discard/removal. That being said, i am thinking about making room for them in my sideboard as they combo nice with Mindslicer in matchups against Leyline of Sanctity and can take the slots of the then useless The Rack.

What about Storm World?

Also Hymn to Tourach and Megrim could be candidates.

Liliana Vess is a lot cheaper money-wise than the 97$ one but costs 5 mana.

And why do you have fetch plains cards? AKA Godless Shrine Sacred Foundry and Marsh Flats

Also, Hymn to Tourach isnt modern legal so disregard that.

Hope I could help

Storm World and Hymn to Tourach are not printed in any ordinary sets after 8th edition and thus are not Modern-legal. Megrim would be legal but has same effect as and costs more than Liliana's Caress, which I've already tried and ruled out. I want to reduce the opponents hand as quickly as possible to limit their choices, so i would rather play Wrench Mind T2 than Liliana's Caress. I feel like caress and megrim should be a totally different deck, using cheaper spells with more triggers that don't reduce the hand size, such as Faithless Looting. Liliana Vess seems almost as good as Liliana of the Veil for this deck, she's more costly and doesn't act as removal, but since she's one sided discard she lets me keep my removal. I'll see if I find a slot for her.

Sorry Bovine073, i just noticed your other comment. The fetch-/dual-plains is to have access to enchantment removal incase an opponent sideboards in Leyline of Sanctity, and also to be able to play my own Leyline of Sanctity from the sideboard in case it gets bounced.

Will respect your thoughts on 1 for 1 trades for cards like Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek. However i do think looking at your opponents hand turn 1 is something valuable for controlling strategies.

But have you tried out Raven's Crime? I believe it is one of the strongest cards in Discard strategies due to it's ability to turn basically any dead land into a source of discard.

Wow thanx! I har totally missed Raven's Crime cause i assumed the Retrace ability would exile the card, in which case it would just be a slower Cry of Contrition that could be used against non-creature decks. Cool!

You could also run Dakmor Salvage for the little combo (discard whenever you need it thanks to dredge), however i personally don't use the dredge a lot.

The crime is sweeeeeeeeet.

ExisPsychoI wasn't too hooked on that combo at first since i would not want to be replacing my upkeep carddraw with Dredge. But now the possibilities has dawned on me.

Three good reasons to play Dakmor Salvage in this deck:

  1. Suddenly playing Smallpox only landstalls the opponent.

  2. The little combo you mentioned does an equally good job of keeping the opponent at 0-1 cards as Pain Magnification.

  3. Incase there is a Waste Not on the battlefield and i play Raven's Crime from my graveyard by discarding Dakmor Salvage, if the card discarded by my opponent is neither land nor creature, I get to do it all again :)

ExisPsycho Do you think I could replace Browbeat with Magmatic Insight now that Dakmor Salvage is on the board?

Or maybe Wild Guess...

Or actually, maybe I should consider Geth's Grimoire again now that I will have a continuous source of discard. Now that I think about it, Geth's Grimoire+Raven's Crime+Dakmor Salvage should empty their hand entirely

If you're really interested in emptying their hand, I'll joke, you can splash Green for Life from the Loam (byoutiful)

Personally I don't run card draw other than say my Waste Not, but Magmatic Insight could prob replace it

ExisPsycho I'm actually starting to come around to the idea of 1 for 1 trades. The fourth Raven's Crime is almost like drawing a land, and i also feel like i often have Wrench Mind and Blightning to spare.

What do you think is the right choice here, going down to 3 of each and adding 3 Inquisition of Kozilek/Thoughtseize or cutting a Raven's Crime and a Blightning for two main board Anger of the Gods (better matchups against Zoo).

I guess that depends

How much Combo do you typically see, and has it been an issue for you?

Personally I would say Inquisition of Kozilek would be the better choice since you'll hit most relevant things and the life loss from Thoughtseize can be relevant against decks like Burn/Zoo

I would think about Anger in the sideboard. I don't know if it'll be relevant all the time.
