This is a tough on guys. I agree that Izzet Guildgate and Maze Sentinel are a tossup, but think of the usefulness. Izzet Guildgate will help us with our Gatekeeper strat. And remember, picks from now on are gonna be more aimed at Gates for our competitors. If we don't grab this gate now, who knows when we get another gate. No, Izzet Guildgate isn't a choice pick, but, I think we will get more usefulness from it than from Maze Sentinel or for that matter anything else in this pack. We NEED gates. Next pack, gates are gonna be extremely scarce, because everyone want's mana-fixing. I know Izzet Guildgate is the worst Gate we could have gotten, but it's a GATE.
In order for our original strat to work we need 7-9 gates. We have 3... And compared to Maze Sentinel with our one multi-colored creature, I think it's a better pick. A six mana 3/6? That is sadly underwhelming. It will probably just end up as a defender. Woohoo! But seriously, we need the Gate. And we need to get as many as possible. Honestly, we will have the ENTIRE next pack to get all of the Maze Sentinel s we want. It's not a great card, and that's why it's sitting here with all of the other not-so-great cards. A Gate is a Gate, and we need them.

Because 2/4's are so awesome we want to play them every turn after four . . .

What matters, is the value we're getting out of the 2/4's. -2/-2 to target creature plus a 2/4 body? Yes please. Gain 7 friggen life and a 2/4 body? Sign me up. Get a 2/2 Sodier creature token with Vigilance and a 2/4? I'm all for that. 2/4's isn't why we are picking Gatekeepers, we are picking them because of the abilities. But the body is nice!

Alright, I think our most reliable pick here is going to be the gate. We want more gates, we probably want blue, we also screw someone else out of a gate/some fixing.
I can see the Maze Sentinel as fitting with our semi-stall type strategy, but the overall vaue of getting another gate seems a little bit more, as we really don't look to be grabbing more multicolor creatures.

And what exactly are we stalling for? What's our endgame? A few gatekeepers?

Arachnarchist is givin' some bad vibes. Bro, we stall, we Debt, we win.

We stall until we get to 14 lands so Debt to the Deathless can kill them?
What if they have a counter or they gain life?
July 11, 2013 2:35 p.m.
So far Unflinching Courage and Debt to the Deathless appear to be our best finishers. As I understand it, we've planned to build up gates and gatekeepers until/unless we get a bomb for a pick. We are likely to get one more solid finisher at the rate we have been going - having one more pack to go.
I can see Maze Sentinel being a good target for Courage, along with our Bronzebeak Moa , but I also see Restore the Peace having great synergy with our Gatekeepers and the Moa.
I've been close to the fence on the Sentinel and Restore, the guildgate seems the only other choice right now. I"m sure I can still be convinced to take the Sentinel, but I want to hear some more of what others think first.

+1 Sinister Possession
can be used to deter one of their early drops from attacking, then deters a chump blocker later
realistically it's the only card we might actually use
July 11, 2013 4:01 p.m.
Sentinel cost 6 mana in a deck already full of 4 drops and does nothing relevant for the cost. What will it do for us without unflinching besides sit there and block just like the gatekeepers can for 2 less mana?
We will be swinging when the opportunity presents itself Arachnarchist, an army of 2/4 guys attacking you is no joke, especially when we could have a combat trick or two in hand. Hopefully, we will also get some incremental damage like torturer, Tithe Drinker , or some evasive guy.
I can't comprehend why you think the Sentinel is better than Debt to the Deathless ... that blows my mind. Have you just not played with it much? Debt wins games, or goes a hell of a long way towards putting us out of reach if it doesn't finish them. Sentinel just stalls, and attacks into a gatekeeper to no effect. With unflinching it could be nice, but we would need both cards for that and it's never a good idea to bet on that.

There are only two situations where it's worth casting Debt to the Deathless : When you're going to win the turn you cast it, or when your going to lose if you don't cast it. Maze Sentinel can block and save you more life than you'll gain off of Debt, and it can attack, and at least put some pressure on your opponent.
By the way, you know who thinks an army of 2/4s is a joke? The guy with bigger creatures, like I don't know, maybe Maze Sentinel .

That's funny, because Maze Sentinel will attack right into a body of 2/4's. And ya know what? The 2/4's will come out fine.
July 11, 2013 6:09 p.m.
Yup... block it with 1 gatekeeper and no worries... they don't trade, nothing is lost, nothing is gained. The only difference is, we got value off of our 2/4, what value did they get off their 3/6 that cost 2 more mana to cast?

I'm sorry, but picking Maze Sentinel would be a huge mistake. There's really no value.
July 11, 2013 6:30 p.m.
If we were passed Maze Abomination , I would be much more tempted to take it.
July 11, 2013 6:39 p.m.
I'm on board for Maze Abomination , imagine that with unflinching xD.
July 11, 2013 7:41 p.m.
Only thing really with multiple people supporting it is the Gate. GATE WINS.
Next pack in 7 hrs 5 mins

Honestly, in this pack the only 2 picks that I see are the guildgate and the Maze Sentinel . Between those two I'm leaning more towards the guildgate, though i'm scared that we're reeeeally forcing the strat now if we decide to grab that. My main issue with Maze sentinel is that we only have what, 1 dual color creature so far? His second ability will be next to useless, and a 3/6 for 6 doesn't sound great, though it wouldn't be a bad target for unflinching. I don't know, I'll have to think about this pick.
