Actually... Mindstatic would be amazing to run against our opponent's bombs.

I'm torn. We need more early game, but I almost feel like we should protect ourselves against the bombs, because those are what are gonna kill us.

I probably should agree with you. I will point out though, that a Mindstatic might be huge from the side. It can counter an AEtherling , a card that we don't truly have an answer for, as well as anything else that would wreck us. I thought about it and even if they swing with our bomb on the field, if they know what they are doing, they can flicker the AEtherling in response to the triggered ability.

We have seen phantasm, and it could wheel back to us pick 13 and 14. We have not seen the static, and this pack is craptastic. The static will go before many others will. This might be our last chance to grab some great sideboard tech against problem matchups.

Thoughts?

Methinks the Mindstatic is the pick here. Unless somebody convinces me otherwise.

Well... I'm going to go ahead and vote for the +1 Murmuring Phantasm .

It gives us a creature, which i think we still need, and that creature is at 2 mana, which is a slot that we don't really have filled. It has toughness enough to block the few creatures our gate keepers can't block too. It's probably main deck worthy. As opposed to the mindstatic, which is going to be in the sideboard until we need it, AND in the super congested 4 mana slot.

Overall, I don't want to bank on us getting a phantasm in the future and ending up not finding one after all.

July 27, 2013 4:42 a.m.

IAmKingTony says... #7

we're never going to have four mana open on the opponent's turn, since we'll have tapped out for pretty much every creature we have on our turn.

id rate Wear/Tear higher and thats a red card

IAmKingTony says... #8

if we see a Phantasm later, we need to take that one too

Deco_y says... #9

The reason why we'd take the Mindstatic is for late game. I'm going to be playing this deck very control. Sitting back and waiting and taking the careful play. All I have to do is keep 4 mana open past turn 5 and wait for their bomb to drop, then proceed to beat face.

July 27, 2013 5:36 a.m.

Mpz5 says... #10

Do you play much control? It's what I do, it's pretty much all I do. That's what this deck is. We build a wall, build up presence, but eventually, we will have nothing to play because we will top a land. I'm not saying that phantasm is a bad pick... but wear/tear is not nearly as good a pick as Mindstatic . I would just like an answer to anything, and that card does it. We are playing into the late game when the card becomes relevant. I want both, and I do agree that we need the wall as well... I'm just saying that Mindstatic isn't a bad pick here either.

Yes, debate it guys. I'm at a wedding tomorrow so I want a consensus when I get back haha

Deco_y says... #12

I'm honestly okay with either pick.

July 27, 2013 5:41 a.m.

Mpz5 says... #13

As am I. I'm actually leaning more towards the phantasm because we need dudes, and he's solid for our deck. I just know that we will be kicking ourselves when AEtherling , or an overloaded Dragonshift hits and we could have been holding this.

July 27, 2013 5:53 a.m.

IAmKingTony says... #14

so to keep four mana open after turn 5, do you not intend to play a creature out ever?

July 27, 2013 6:54 a.m.

sewellius says... #15

I can see Mindstatic being useful of course, but I really do agree with nemesis101's comments the most here. It would be really nice to have something to block what our gatekeepers cannot.

+1 Murmuring Phantasm

And there lies the problem. Since we have so many 4 and 5 drops (at this point 1/4 of our deck), it's not inconceivable that we'd have a hand with 3 or 4 of them by the time we hit 4 mana. Assuming we play one every turn, we won't have any mana open for a mind static till we hit turn 8 or 9. And I know we can play around the fact that we have a Mindstatic in our hand (as in, not play a creature for a turn If we think the bomb is coming or something counterable is coming) but overall I just think that's kind of risky.

+1 Murmuring Phantasm

I think you guys are right. I just wanted to point out the fact that it is an answer. I just feel like something will happen that will cause us to kick ourselves later for this choice. Maybe we will get handed one with nothing else decent to pick in the next 2 packs... Please keep your minds open for it if it happens.

I'm open to having a Mindstatic in our sideboard if we can get more cheap creatures so we can actually use it.

July 27, 2013 4:53 p.m.

NeoHazard says... #19

Yeah and mind static doesn't seem to be one that gets taken a lot at least with the people at my shop who draft. My vote is for the phantasm. Makes me happy we didn't take one of the earlier ones.

Alright, Phantasm wins.

+1 Maze Glider

We have absolutely NO flying, and this bad boy could solve all our problems for 6 mana.

July 28, 2013 2:45 a.m.

First of all, +1 Maze Glider . Second of all, really? Simic Guildgate ? Really?

July 28, 2013 2:49 a.m.

Mpz5 says... #23

As much as I'd love the guildgate... I have to agree that Maze Glider is our pick here.

+1 Maze Glider

ooo, that gate is SOOOOO tempting...

+1 Maze Glider. /sigh

July 28, 2013 3:20 a.m.

sewellius says... #25

Yeah, I would be fine with the Glider or Gate. We've picked up a few multicolored creatures now, at least. Another high cost drop though, unfortunately. But hey, who doesn't want a flying Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts ?
