Some interesting, off color choices for us.

so... the only card that shares our color that can be of any use is Phytoburst.

that being said, it's REALLY tempting to go white and and grab unflinching courage..

Phytoburst, Crypt Incursion, Deputy of Acquittals, or Unflinching Courage, I think.

If we are doing green, Phytoburst would be in color. The sorcery speed is really a cramp on its utility, but it's still a versatile card. Can remove Runner's Bane, do that last bit of damage, force an unfavorable block, etc.

Crypt Incursion is in color and is a great sideboard hate card, but I'm not sure how likely it is that we'll run into someone it's useful against in this format. If someone gets a good Golgari deck with Deathbridge Chant, the card'd be useful there.

Deputy of Acquittals is off color but can work with our Gatekeepers by returning them to hand. I'm not sure about going into white, though.

Even if we don't run Unflinching Courage, it might be worth it while we have no good picks anyways to keep the card out of someone else's deck. Also, it's early to be calling this, but it seems like Selesnya is open right now, so if we get forced out of our other colors we could switch to it.

Seems like a bad pack for us. If it keeps swinging this way, we'll have to switch colors, so I think I'm leaning towards Phytoburst or Unflinching Courage.

Something tells me if we don't take Punish the Enemy, we'll regret it.

That Armored Wolf-Rider would also kinda bone us if we go up against it. Just keep this in mind.

honestly, i don't feel that red has a lot to offer us aside from that card... i'd rather go white instead

I'd be fine with the Deputy or Courage.

Unfortunately, someone already took the gate... that's not good. Now the only viable choice here IMHO is Unflinching Courage. We are going gates, the next best gatekeeper is the white one anyway, and if we hit a debt or a tithe drinker, we were going white as well anyway for extort. 4 colors is extremely doable with a gate strat in a slow format, we just need to pick them up asap.

Unflinching Courage all the way... no close seconds. It's a power uncommon that I'm super surprised got this far. We can also look for Deputy of Acquittals later if we do go white for 4 color.

Giving our creature +2/+2 and trample plus lifelink? yes please. Even if we get a few drakes or something, we would now have a pretty decent win con that stabilizes us as we go. We could also keep an eye out for the flying hexproof guy... or was he in gatecrash? I forget.

+1 Unflinching Courage

Rkynick also brings up a great point. Getting this pack almost surely means that no one upstream of us is in W/G. They are sending us a clear signal with this, I don't know why else they would have not taken the unflinching. If we move into W/G/B, and plan on maybe heavily splashing blue, I think it would set us up pretty well. They will also expect to get other colors from us second pack since they are sending us this direction. The funny thing is, we can go any colors that we really want and so will likely just take the best cards anyway.

We will have enough playables. I think we need to focus on grabbing any gate that comes our way from here on out this pack unless we just get offered a powerhouse gatekeeper or power uncommon. People are already grabbing the color fixing which scares me a little bit. I'd hate to have to force the gates early last pack and miss out on some big cards because we need the gates more at that point.

June 27, 2013 2:59 p.m.

I currently think splashing white is the best gameplan. Going B/W/G is going to be a good option if (like Mpz5 said) we get passed a Tithe Drinker or the even better Debt to the Deathless. It will also give us options like Armored Wolf-Rider. A real bomb in limited and a fairly common card. I think the best pick of the pack is Unflinching Courage. I don't really see any other competitors. Sure, Crypt Incursion and Deputy are nice, but I think it would be a mistake to pick them over Courage. I think white could give us so many possibilities. IMO we should go G/W/B and splash blue. My vote goes to Unflinching Courage.

+1 UNFLINCHING COURAGE

It's still too early to say we're in any set colors. We're definitely not solidly enough into blue. We can drop the RUNNERS BANE, and AWAY is the better half of FAR / AWAY. I guess my point is, it looks like we're getting cut from blue, and we shouldn't try to force it. Selesnya appears to be pretty open with three strong cards in this pack. Take UNFLINCHING COURAGE over the WOLF RIDER because the RIDER is common and is a less clear signal about the color combo to those we are passing to.

Yea, it looks like we're going with Courage.

I guess that's a decent pick. Since we're so big on Gatekeepers, I'd think Deputy would be an instapick.

Our mana curve is horrible right now.

Deco_y says... #15

We only have 4 picks done so far, lots of time to balance the curve.

Courage just seems to be against our strategy. Maybe I just have a different method of drafting.

If we clog the field, it's great, but we need a way to punch through some damage. I wouldn't count out blue either. I'd love to see a Ascended Lawmage to throw this on. having a 5/4 hexproof, trample, flier with lifelink might as well be gg for the opponent, even a Wind Drake with courage will put pressure on the opponent.

Deputy of Acquittals will also be great in this deck.

4 colors is easily a reality, one (blue most likely) will just have to be lighter than the other three.

Orzhov Guildgate , Gatekeeper strat requires gates. We also can take away our opponent's mana fixing. Seems like a win win.

June 28, 2013 11:54 a.m.

Mpz5 says... #25

Only other option is Hired Torturer as if we get a few of those, it's a pretty good clock behind our wall, but we are more likely to see them later and just a few would work for our deck.

I have to agree that it's time to start aggressively picking up any gate we can get our hands on. Unless we get passed a gatekeeper, or a power card, I think we need to grab the gates if they are there so we are not as desperate for them later. If we pick up a total of 10 or so, we will be looking good.

+1 Orzhov Guildgate, it's even one of our prefered gates based on our current colors to boot!
