Wall Tribal with Arcades

These walls have big butts. They are pretty cool. You should probably play them.

But in all seriousness, this is defender tribal - taking advantage of Arcades, the Strategist, the awesome new commander from Core Set 2019. The basic goal of the deck is to abuse Aracdes' second clause (the one allowing your creatures to deal combat damage equal to their toughness) by playing tons of defenders with low power and high toughness. This allows us to play what are effectively 8/8 flyers with shroud for three mana (Wall of Denial). Oh yeah, and did I mention that Arcades also allows all of your creatures with defender to attack? Well, he does and that's pretty sweet too.

You know what else we can do since all of our creatures have low power? We can abuse it, with one sided board wipes, like Slaughter the Strong, Fell the Mighty, Dusk / Dawn, etc. This allows us to make way for our monstrous walls to kick butt.

You may notice that the deck is fairly light on card draw. This is intentionally, as Arcades' draw clause is natural card advantage in a deck with 30+ defenders. If you feel that you are still struggling in terms of card draw, I suggest you add some time-worn card draw classics (Rhystic Study, Mystic Remora, we are in blue after all.

It is worth noting that there are quite a few infinite combos you can pull of with Arcades. While those are potentially powerful, I find them unfun and degenerate and for the most part chose to exclude them from my build. Speaking of my build, it is a budget deck (including a few cards and lands that I already had, like Horizon Canopy - sorry!). The great thing about these walls is that they're so cheap, since without Arcades out they are basically pieces of trash. The sideboard is a collection of cards that I would include if I had the money, and that you should include if you do.

That brings me to another point - the deck needs Arcades. Your walls basically do nothing on their own, and while there are substitutes for Arcades (like card:Aerial Assault), Arcades is an integral part of the function of the deck.

Ultimately, this deck is not tier one. But, it is awesome, it is cheap, it is fun, and you get to play with a cool new commander. 10/10 in my eyes.
