Intro
There is just so much crazy synergys and combos all revolving around the defender mechanic so when I saw Arcades, the Strategist I knew I would have to build this deck. The basic idea is to play walls which will have a big toughness but little power and then play cards like Arcades, the Strategist, High Alert and Assault Formation to turn them into big threats. My cousin Ben helped build the deck so I owe him some of the credit (he also insisted on the name).
Card Choices
Perimeter Captain
This is the ideal one drop for this deck. It pads our life total and provides a strong blocking body to help protect us in the early game and can become a threat with one of our Assault Formation cards.
There are a ton of cards that increase the consistency of the deck such as Wall of Omens/Wall of Blossoms and Drift of Phantasms. The two walls grant us card advantage and strong bodies making them an ideal turn two play. Drift of Phantasms can tutor up our win cons, including our combo Axebane Guardian + Staff of Domination as well as High Alert and Wall of Denial.
Axebane Guardian, Overgrown Battlement and Sylvan Caryatid offer us a ton of ramp, Axebane Guardian and Overgrown Battlement also provide one of the deck's wincons when combined with Staff of Domination and three other creatures with defender.
Tower Defense gives all your creatures +5/+5 for two mana.
Path to Exile is one of the best removal spells in the game.
Sapling of Colfenor is a new card I'm testing. It's an indestructible threat that gains us tons of life and provides card advantage
We have three different cards with Assault Formation effects. Arcades, the Strategist is the most expensive of them but it makes up for that by drawing us cards, not having to pay each time you attack like Assault Formation and on top of that it's a 3/5 threat with flying and vigilance. High Alert costs one mana less and like Arcades, the Strategist it does not require us to spend mana whenever we attack. It can also untap our creatures.
Wall of Denial with an Arcades, the Strategist on the board is an 8/8 with flying and shroud for only three mana. It's the decks main beater and can be tutored with Drift of Phantasms.
Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive makes all of your walls and it's self unblockable
Miren, the Moaning Well can gain us life in a pinch.
Thanks for reading my badly made description. There are so many cards that could fit in this deck and if you do not agree with the ones I chose please tell me in the comments and give me suggestions on how to make the deck better. I will be making a sideboard. I would also of course love it if you could Upvote!
