Walls That’ll Whap Ya

The Purpose

This deck is a sort of “for real” attempt at a deck I’ve been working on for quite awhile. That deck is an “All Walls” deck, where you cannot play anything but walls. It’s a silly challenge, but it’s always been fun. Now that Arcades, the Strategist is a thing, I’m really gonna have to step up my game with this. Nobody has been able to resist trying this and using him since he came out and I can’t let my stupid little idea fall behind!

The purpose of this deck is to build up a huge board presence using walls. Your physical defense should be pretty strong both early and late game because of the abundance of high Toughness. Once your defensive position is established, the tables turn! What this was once done with was Assault Formation and Rolling Stones, but they’ve been combined into another nice new release, High Alert. Play that, and you can go on the offensive. Now that your offense is as strong as your defense, you should dominate combat and be able to win.

Current weaknesses basically just would be any deck that wins through unconventional methods, meaning not through combat. Things like Mill, Life Loss, Infinite Combos, etc... aside from the few counters in the deck, there aren’t really a whole lot of cards that can deal with those things and you just have to hope you win the race to High Alert so that you can get the kill.

Card Breakdown

Fog Bank

  • This guy is actually just a blocker since he can’t deal combat damage, but BOY howdy is he a good one. Nothing gets through him.
  • GREAT target for Pariah

High Alert

  • This is the key to the deck. Protect it because this is your weak spot. This gets the ball rolling.

Overgrown Battlement

  • Aside from being a WAAAAALL this guy makes for some pretty decent ramp. Helps out a lot with the speed issue.

Pariah

  • Fun card, this one. Stick it on any old wall and you’ll have a nice line of defense against an attack.
  • Stick it on Fog Bank and YOU BECOME THE WALL.
  • Stick it on Wall of Essence for some lifegain shenanigans.

Rune Snag

  • A counter. You know it, I know it, moving on!!

Tower Defense

  • Hey, kid, you wanna hit like WAY the frick harder? I think I’ve got something for that.

Wall of Denial

  • This thing is the hardest hitter you’re gonna get here. An 8/8 for 3 CMC is pretty good. The fact that it has Flying and Shroud just makes this mean. It truly is a Wall of Denial.

Wall of Essence

  • As if walking into a slaughter and not being able to deal any combat damage to me (Pariah) weren’t enough to convince opponents to not attack me, now I gain life when they do it as well.

Wall of Frost

  • Another one of your heavy hitters. Just short of Wall of Denial, but still nothing to sneeze at.
  • Offers some control if anyone decides to attack you.

Wall of Omens

  • Pretty good Wall here. Provides a little bit of draw on top of serving the combat functions of the tribe.

Other Decks

I’m always looking for advice and suggestions on decks. Here’s some more of mine in the Modern format if you’re down to help me out!
