ShaperSavant - maybe this question has been asked but I can't find the answer roght now. Anyway, my question is - why do you use fetchlands? I get the fact that you obviously want to increase your chances of drawing a nonland spell after cracking them. But is this virtual usefulness enough to use them in the deck with root maze? What is more, they feed our opponents' Deathrite Shamans, are slowed down by their Thalias and Root Mazes and sometimes become shut down by their Aven Mindcensors and Leonin Arbiters. Is it really worth to run them in a mono deck with no landfall synergy whatsoever?
January 27, 2017 12:29 a.m.
I asked a similar question some time ago. The only synergies i could detect are Sylvan Library (shuffle away cards you don't want, but Yisan and other cards can already do that), Eternal Witness (occasionally you draw Witness and need another land, so it's useful to have a fetch in the grave at this point) and Dryad Arbor (if you need something to sac into Natural Order, you can find it with a fetch). There are more potential reasons to play fetches (Titania, Protector of Argoth, Avenger of Zendikar, Rings of Brighthearth, Sensei's Divining Top, Oracle of Mul Daya), but this list doesn't have these.
However, as you pointed out, Root Maze is antisyngergistic with fetches and there is a good deal of hate for fetches that could be avoided.

Curious: do you think it'd make sense to add some more combo pieces? Really all you'd need is something to give creatures haste and you could get infinite mana, though Im' not sure what you'd do with it... I guess I'm just curious on your take on that in general.
January 27, 2017 12:32 p.m.
jco Let's be honest, if you're infinitely untapping your mana dorks for infinite mana. If you have yisan, and ways to untap things, what do you think the mana sink would be? Also, I'm pretty sure concordant crossroads is the only way to do that in mono green, and that can be detrimental due to it giving your opponents haste as well.

Depending on the mana being produced both sets of boots work as well
January 27, 2017 2:01 p.m.
This is true, boots/greaves would work to enable haste if enough mana is being produced. Still though, it's the difference between x and x+1 elves in the case of archdruid/priest, and one more green devotion with karametras acolyte, both of which are actually difficult not to be able to do if you're comboing off

JubaLose I would put in Whisperwood and more artifact/enchantment hate.
Rarian Deckthinning, fetching Dryad Arbor for Cradle/blocks/other reasons, shuffling away topdeck cards (Sensei's and Mirri's Guile float in and out of the list), recurring with Noxious/Regrowth. Having them bite you is very rare and I prefer more options to less.
jco If you have a haste combo, you're likely near able to use the same pieces to combo in other ways (Sabertooth/Symbiote being the main enablers). Lightning Greaves is quite decent.
January 27, 2017 10:23 p.m.
Kushala, fair point, I guess my meta has a decent amount of mass removal so being able to win when you have critical mass of creatures is key. I guess the goal would be to get the craterhoof and swing on over.
Something else I'm wondering, in that vein, is if there's a good way to shuffle the graveyard back into the library. Yisan is pretty great at picking up the pieces after a wrath or geddon, but if the game drags out, it can get to be that a lot of great stuff is in the graveyard, and in general the deck would benefit a lot given how much deck search it has... just food for thought

Loaming Shaman or Primal Command are probably the cards you are looking for.

Has anyone considered adding ulvenwald tracker for top decks like general taxi, edric, selvala, captain sissy, sidisi brood tyrant, etc?
January 28, 2017 2:06 p.m.
Limejuice I see some lists running the tracker, but for a competitive pod it's not the best option. Reasons I think this is: 1- verse 1 counter has much more eficient lines of play (even Treefolk Harbinger to Lignify is better than the tracker in a must respond scenario) 2- The early game is meant to put yisan out and expand the advantages, the dorks rarely kill something, and when do, they die =~ Of course are more experienced players who can contribute to this question, but I'm saying why for me it's not have much impact =)

It floated in and out of many Yisan lists. Somberwald Stag seems to well and truly replaced it though.
January 30, 2017 9:16 a.m.
Ulvenwald Tracker is also somewhat of a metagame choice. It's quite good if you expect hatebears like Aven Mindcensor, Phyrexian Revoker or Containment Priest as well as threats like Hermit Druid or Arcum Dagsson, since they all loose a fight with a 2/3 Yisan. It comes down early enough to matter against these cards, while Somberwald Stag is occasionally too slow.

Emzed I would play Prey Upon before Tracker. It's a good deal faster, doesn't steal your 1-drop tutor, and most importantly gives you outs to Yisan's worst enemy: Linvala.

ShaperSavant do you think it's a good tech add the Homeward Path in prevention for the Gilded Drake of life? And what are the ratio for generic mana in the lands? There's a risky move to add more colorless lands and have turn 2 yisan a more hard time to pull? And without Gaea's Cradle it's ok to keep Crop Rotation and Sylvan Scrying in the deck? Keep in mind the 350 build, but I make the comments here because more people read and join the discussion, the same reason I don't pm you =)

JubaLose It is if you're consistently facing Drake. I find Sylvan Safekeeper sufficient most of the time, but if you're struggling it, it's good tech.
I wouldn't worry about increasing the number of colorless reasons in how it effects turn 2 Yisan; the real gate is how many Forests you have in play for Quirion and Scryb Ranger. You can combat this by putting Wood Elves in at 3 so you can pick up another Forest if you need.
Without Cradle I would keep Crop Rotation but would probably cut Sylvan Scrying.

ShaperSavant Taking the land route is a fast and correct aproach when the deck present us with this, taking this in consideration, what are your thoughts on Lotus Cobra? Verse 1 - Sakura-Tribe Scout, verse 2 - Lotus Cobra can be more explosive than verse 1 - Quirion Ranger, verse 2 - Priest of Titania? They can coexist in harmony or the elves prey on cobra for a better slot usage? =)

JubaLose I have a tough time thinking Lotus Cobra does enough by itself. Scout very much needs Scryb at 2 to help accelerate Yisan (and itself) with untaps. Quirion/Priest makes 2+ per tap with up to 4 untaps in a turn cycle, where Scout/Cobra only makes 2 mana and 0 untaps over a turn cycle. Even with Burgeoning, it only makes 5 mana in a cycle (in the most ideal case) and you're forced to mainphase any Yisan activations you pay for with it.
February 6, 2017 2:46 p.m.
ShaperSavant today I pick one for testing, but cannot put in the deck before the games begin and without fetches the power decay a lot, Sylvan Scrying is underwhelming, and I feel the same about Vitalize, Phyrexian Revoker in my meta don't do much, but I know he is a very good silver bullet and deserve their spot. How you seeThousand-Year Elixir? Thinking in add elixir and Fierce Empath to grab Bane of Progress when desperated. =)
February 6, 2017 6:51 p.m.
Phyrexian Revoker doesn't do much? You are aware it can shut down mana abilities, like the ones on Sol Ring or Bloom Tender, right?
February 6, 2017 7:59 p.m.
Whoa... I don't! Shame on me... At least I say he's a good silver bullet XD Today, I cast him naming Prosh only to prevent the sac on turn 1, florest + sol ring + revoker... if I knew the information you bring to me, I have named the mana crypt from the narset player... Thanks Emzed =D
February 6, 2017 9:01 p.m.
What are yours thoughts on more combo enablers? Sword of the Paruns seems weak for me, but Thousand-Year Elixir are curently in test, and I think a pseudo-haste that is not simetrical is nice. The second question: ShaperSavant in the 350 build you maintain the one-time mana Lotus Petal and Elvish Spirit Guide alongside with Chrome Mox. In this build, Mox Diamond take one spot, but you drop the 2 others. The drops are for the slots of stax, thinking of reduce a bit the speed in exchange of a hard time for the table? Diamond mox is out of my budget now, but the petal is affordable, I already have chrome mox, elvish and in the slot of petal using mana vault. The petal is valuable or is best invest in other missing cards?
February 7, 2017 7:36 p.m.
Please forgive me if my query comes across as unnecessary but I was wondering why this deck doesn't run Tooth and Nail as an alternative to tutoring with Yisan for possible win if the early goal is to obtain infinite mana anyways.
JubaLose says... #2
ShaperSavant saturday have a tournament of multiplayer edh, to complete the 350 budget list I miss some of the turn 2 enablers: Lotus Petal, Elvish Spirit Guide, Chrome Mox and Exploration. With this in mind, is more effective in yours perspective run more artifact/enchantment hate or put more creatures Kamahl, Fist of Krosa Wood Elves Whisperwood Elemental are some of I think, creating more ways to respond in the course of the game. Let me think your thoughts please =)
