xander11: Thanks for comment and upvote. I'm not exactly sure how it would be value here, but I'll consider it. What would you suggest cutting?

seshiro_of_the_orochi So because you everyone has to attack each combat having a recurable fog will still buff your commander helping reduce risk of you swinging as well I would get rid of Honor Troll the +1 to life gain seems a little underwhelming

xander11: I get your reasoning. I'll have to think about it. Honor Troll's big upside is that it's a 4/4 vigilance early in the game. That's rare in green and very useful. Thanks for your input.

It depends on the amount of recursion you are running. I have often found Spore Frog to be underwhelming without playing recursion-heavy or tapdown heavy Thantis. You have to remember IF you have Thantis out that frog has to be attacking someone as well. A 1/1 that you have to consider force-sacrificing or just losing to a block doesn't feel great.

June 26, 2021 8:17 a.m.

Gleeock: That was my thought on that pretty exactly. The second thing is, I'm only playing two recurson pieces. I recently considered adding Storrev, Devkarin Lich . That way, Frog would make sense, otherwise, not so much.

To everyone interested:

I managed to pull an Endurance from a MH2 pack, and I have the intention of adding it here. After pondering for a while if I should remove Flesh / Blood or Leyline of the Void , I decided to keep Leyline. My reasoning is as follows: Leyline is insane early game, but can make my remaining gravehate useless. This isn't a problem though, as I have no pure gravehate cards. Every single one of them has an alternate mode or is good enough without the hate already. When I drop Leyline late, it synergizes with my other gravehate in that it keeps graves empty once I cleared them. Flesh / Blood is a one-shot one-card gravehate that can alter as a Soul's Fire for 3 or 7 mana. Against decks where gravehate is important, that's a terrible rate, and only playing it for the creature removal isn't worth it. Endurance will usually be both a damage-based removal spell for an attacker and a one-shot full-grave removal for 3 or often even 0 mana. It can also be recursion for those grindy games where I really need lots of cards from my graveyard again. This is a strict upgrade and a welcome addition to the deck.

Soon-to-be Froghemoth may be solid addition considering the swiss-army grave-hate & chip-lifegain themes

Gleeock: Ooooh, great idea. Finally, a second card from the set I could use.

You asked me about recent adds. Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant slots in either your "Value" category or potentially "Survive" category as being Voltron'd is less of the threat with him & one big battlecruiser coming my way has been more of a problem for the spider than swing-wide. I added Fevered Suspicion because it is a fun bomb... but doesn't seem as on-point for you. Den of the Bugbear & Hive of the Eye Tyrant have been good utility lands for me.. One making more polymorph fodder. The other being more gravehate. Death Tyrant self-enables recursion & keeps the zombie train rolling.

August 7, 2021 11:59 p.m.

Gleeock: Thanks, these are great suggestions. I've pulled hive from apack and actually considered adding it here. I'll do that now, but I'll have to think what to take out for it. A masic seems the easiest way, but then again, it's another potential tap land. Both beholders seem very interesting, but I stumbled into problems when I considered them: Death Tyrant, as cool as it is, doesn't really fit that well. Karazikar is a great card to support Thantis, and he also grants additional value. I even missed the anti-voltron tech. I decided against him before, but that changes things. I still have no idea what to replace with him, but I'll think about it.

The remaining suggestions are fine for Thantis in general. Thanks a lot for the feedback! :)

Hi, I think this is very well built and you have gone into a lot of detail on the inner workings of everything you have. I am basically just here to upvote because I like what I see.

DNcards: Thanks a lot for that. I appreciate every comment, so that's that.

You have a great deck there, took many ideas from you pal. You should try shamanic revelation, for draw plus life gain. I would switch sapling of colfenor for spiteful visions, draw and constant DMG for your enemies :) Dense foliage itsE a perfect unknown card for this deck. mindcrank and crypt incursion are also great ways to remove treats and gain life. For mana druids repository and grim hireling can help a lot. Last but not least Heartless summoning has been incredibly for me. Best luck in your games.

Worchatz: Thanks for the comment and the upvote, I really appreciate that. Regarding your suggestions, here's what I think:

Shamanic Revelation is great, I'll try to get it for the deck. Spiteful Visions is awesome, but I'll find another slot than that of Sapling. Her indestructibility is just too important here. Dense Foliage is interesting, but I don't get why it's that great here. Semi-shroud is cool, but I like my spot removal, and not being able to use it feels bad. Druids' Repository is super-cool, definitely going in. I decided against Grim Hireling. It's a fine card, but too fragile for the deck. I'm unsure about Heartless Summoning. The mana discount is great, but shrinking my creatures seems counterproductive here.

Lots of things to think about, thank you very much for the input.

Worchatz: Forgot to mention Mindcrank and Crypt Incursion: Incursion used to be in here but got kicked, and Mindcrank seems highly proplematic because, as I mentioned, grave decks are the archenemy here.

Dense foliage is cool cos you can bypass it with cards like pestilence (this alone can kill your enemies if it stayson the board), kaervec, avatar of woe while your enemies single target removal will be crippled :)

October 15, 2021 4:02 p.m.

Worchatz: Ok, that makes sense, but I'd have to make some pretty big changes to the deck. So the the idea is pretty cool, I'll pass on it for now. Thanks once more.

Hello Snakeman!

Saw your post on the AyCD thread, but unfortunately I'm no good at suggesting cuts. I did want to comment anyway, though, because I really like Thantis (though I've never built her myself) and I've envisioned her a bit differently than what you have here.

In my opinion, you should run a lot more attack-consequent cards. In other words, cards that punish your opponents for attacking you.

On the top of that list is No Mercy, which some people don't like to use because it causes hurt feels. To me, though, it's a no-brainer. Here's a few others I like:

In addition to that list, I might also suggest Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant and Parasitic Impetus, both of which feed your theme, and Druids' Repository, which is great ramp in any attack heavy deck.

There I go, making things even more complicated, hahaha...

Cheers!

Epicurus: This is what I originally considered Thantis to look like, as well, but I learned that you basically play an actual Jund deck, but in commander. So you try to grind out a win, and you really need especially graveyard interaction for that. The consequences for attacking me are the vigilance-granting cards, so I'm trying to be as unatractive to attack as possible due to having massive and/or dangerous blockers. Thanks a lot for your suggestions, still. Karazikar already is in here. No Mercy is great, but very expensive. Maybe I can shoot one for cheap. Repository is a good card.

How's it going man? I like Thanatis and believe the spider is an interesting way to promote table interaction, in more ways than one.

Timeless Witness is a self recurring Eternal Witness, which is useful as recursion, and may be psudeo 'unblockable' as killing it means it gets both beefier and extra value.

Kamahl, Heart of Krosa, Ruric Thar, the Unbowed and Grand Warlord Radha all fit in nicely here. Kamahl literally beats face with your team, notwithstanding his land pump ability. Ruric Thar is good hate on noncreatures, directly making the casting player an easier target (great with lifelink). Radha is just a creature Druids' Repository. Sure, she may be 1 cmc more, but she pays for herself the turn she is played by attacking.

Archetype of Endurance can help you protect your field, as both an anthem and form of protection, it has great usage. The other two Archetypes, Archetype of Aggression and Archetype of Finality are slightly redundant, as you have other options, but could be useful. Urabrask the Hidden is an honorable mention as well, but messes with Thanatis a bit.

Ring of Thune seems underwhelming, aside from giving cheap vigilance, I'd suggest Avarice Amulet, as it shifts focus off of your better creatures and provides a value engine for your opponents to squabble over. There's always Glaive of the Guildpact if you're set on equipment, but I prefer a creature with a pushing effect such as God-Eternal Rhonas or Sigardian Zealot

My main point is, in an aggressive deck, having creature value engines is best as they can attack, though I'm sure you already know that. Either way, deck looks sweet, keep at it my man!

November 16, 2021 3:50 a.m.

GoldenDiggle: Thanks for that elaborate comment and these great suggestions. I like most of them. I recently dropped Ruric because the deck is simply too heavy on non-creatures to reasonbly ever have him out. Radha I have thought about and always wasn't too sure. Kamahl is a new and actually pretty cool idea.

And you still helped me with my important question: I'll propbly drop Ring of Thune for Dormant Grove. Thanks for that! And thanks a lot for the kind words.

Hey, this deck is neat, but it's not really my area of expertise, so I'll just say Farseek is great, especially if you decide to upgrade your lands, maybe with those dual type snow lands. Obscuring Haze seems excellent in this deck, it gives you a free block and your commander gets bigger still. It's by far the most underrated free spell. I'd maybe swap them out for Warden of the Woods, and Edge of Autumn. Anyways I like what you're doing, it seems really mean, watch out for Voltron lol.
