Waste Not is an awesome card and we can do a lot of awesome things with it, with the most awesome of those being using it as the engine piece to fuel a broken storm combo deck. Tappedout's playtesting doesn't allow the deck to shine, but in real life, you'll be chaining mana and card draws like crazy. Often times you're toying with your opponents hand just wheeling ti and gaining value.
I'd seen the idea floating around in the brew-o'-sphere and having now tried it for myself I'm reporting back today in greater detail on this new black/red Modern Storm archetypethis deck can do ridiculous things.
On the surface, Waste Not is a value card for a black discard deck. Rip their hand apart and profit!
Burning Inquiry for only 1 red mana gives you 3 Waste Not triggers. It's random, so they may be Zombies, the may be draws, they may be fast manabut it's gonna be something.
The draw-3-discard-3 can maybe fix up your hand or screw up their hand, but if it draws 1 more card, makes a zombie, and makes more mana, things start to get nuts.
At this point Dream Salvage becomes Ancestral Recall for 1 black mana. That's a nice effect. And of course, that's just the start. Line up 2 preceding Burning Inquiries and you draw 6 cards for 1 mana. It can get even more ridiculous too. I often chain into Dream Salvages using the black mana produced by waste not.
You'll want fast red mana to turbocharge your deck. The Waste Not mana engine gives you only black mana. So Desperate Ritual and Pyretic Ritual give us that. Simian Spirit Guide is a storm staple. Just make sure to exile it before discarding anything.
Dark Deal is like bigger Burning Inquiry. Huge triggers on Waste not and another card Liliana's Caress! Which could equal 14 life wreckage? Chaining into a wheeled Dark Deal using Waste Not's mana is amazing. Although sometimes I'm out of cards and it sort of sucks.
Grapeshot is another win con in this sick deck.
Collective Defiance is a one-sided mill which can be stormed into nicely with the rituals. It has proven very effective.
Suggestions are welcome. I'm thinking about putting in some big delve creatures too. What do you guys think?
