I HATE playing against these kinds of decks. They absolutely hose the decks I like to play. As long as you never sit across from me I think this one definitely deserves a +1.

Haha thanks! I'll try to avoid you at any events I play. haha

I'm considering adding a couple Burning Inquiry because of its awesome synergy with Waste Not . Thoughts?

I like that it also has the benefit of potentially dumping land cards that they may have been holding onto.

July 2, 2014 11:57 p.m.

kmcree says... #5

Yeah that is one upside. I would probably use it predominantly when my opponent's hand is empty, so that there is no chance of giving them any kind of card advantage. But it would basically guarantee me some combination of dudes, cards, and mana. Seems like a good deal.

APPLE01DOJ says... #6

I think that downside is it is only beneficial to play Burning Inquiry if Waste Not is online. Otherwise it's a wasted slot... ....and if there is 1 thing 8Rack needs it's a few more flex spots.

July 3, 2014 12:31 a.m.

kmcree says... #7

That's definitely the downside. I would only put in 1-2, and hopefully it wouldn't be a dead card too often.

burning inquiry is a good move I thinkwith a rack deck your opponent is usually top decking by turn 3 or 4, so they won't have anything to discard (except the 3 they draw) so it won't help them

obviously if you have a rack it will really help you out, but even if you don't it shouldn hurt you, and might help by dropping some of there potential answers into the graveyard.

how has bloodmoon been working out for you? 12 of your lands are nonbasic, can you really survive with so little black mana? if you want this to run blood moon you may need to either drop some nonbasics or potentially run basics in your sideboard.

I haven't used Blood Moon in a game since adding the Lavaclaw Reaches . Before that, it usually worked out great. I'll have to see how well it works now. I'm thinking of adding another Swamp to get up to 20 lands, so we'll see. The thing is, the only thing in my deck that requires double black is Lili, so I can get away with only having 1-2 black sources on the board.

yeah I suppose that's true. in that case go for it!

Love a good rakdos deck, +1 of course :) Would suggest Slaughter Games (to stop some combos) and Sowing Salt (to stop Tron) on the sideboard.

Also, take a look a my deck Rakdos Infection and comment if you like. There are some sideboard options that might be useful.

kmcree says... #12

Thanks! I actually use Extirpate to fill both those roles. I can exile non basic lands or combo pieces, provided I can get 1 copy into the graveyard. It's a slight drawback, but it only costs me 1 mana instead of 4, and with only 19 lands 4 is just too much to ask in most games.

I will definitely check out your deck!

I actually think you're better off running the Blackcleave Cliffs over the Dragonskull Summit since they enter untapped for the first 3 land drops and you only need 4 lands for Rix Maadi, Dungeon Palace

Nice to see another rakdos 8-rack deck. My list is pretty close to yours with a bit different sideboard I guess.

Yeah I think you're probably right about the Blackcleave Cliffs . Originally when I had more Swamp s the Dragonskull Summit s worked really well. But now with fewer basics I think the Cliffs might make more sense.

Slaughter Games for sideboard? Call out and f u cards and get em out of the game and take over late game?

July 10, 2014 11:27 p.m.

kmcree says... #16

If I can them to discard 1 copy of whatever I want to get rid of, then Extirpate pretty much does the same thing as Slaughter Games , but for only 1 black.

Ik the exitirpate and surgical extraction combos but if their not main deck why? I think those be more valid than funeral charm honestly. And slaughter games is a pure i know it in there and i havent discarded it yet so lets get rid of it

Deck ripping is my take on the discard removal deck while having a high pace tempo with my creatures if you like any ideas

July 11, 2014 11:01 a.m.

kmcree says... #19

I have it in the side because against a decent number of decks it's a dead card and I'd rather pull something from their hand. Funeral Charm is great because it's instant speed discard, which is extremely useful when your opponent is top decking. Slaughter Games is nice, no doubt. But for this deck, 4 mana is a bit too much to ask, so I decided to go with Extirpate .

I have an 8Rack spin you can check out called Leave Empty Handed. I like Nezumi Shortfang , Delirium Skeins and Infernal Tutor . Note that Nezumi Shortfang can use its ability at instant speed to force your opponent to discard their draw like Funeral Charm .

+1 for 8Rack!

kmcree says... #21

I'm not really sure about Infernal Tutor in this deck, because I don't have anything I'd want to take out for it. I have considered Delirium Skeins , and it will probably go into the sideboard for match ups against Leyline of Sanctity . As for Nezumi Shortfang , that's a card I hadn't looked at previously. Its definitely interesting and I'll play around with it. Thanks!

This looks really good. I see you've got Extirpate on the side. Have you thought about Surgical Extraction as another way to disrupt combo decks early?

I built a Rat tribal deck that uses a shell very similar to this. This is a fun way to play, it really smashes focused decks.

+1

kmcree says... #23

I actually did put a lot of thought into the Surgical Extraction vs Extirpate decision. I ultimately decided on Extirpate because it can't be countered and it can't be responded to with something like Snapcaster Mage . Ultimately, I decided the casting cost flexibility that Surgical Extraction provides just wasn't relevant enough in a deck like this where I'm likely to be top decking and not likely to play more than 1 spell on most turns.

July 15, 2014 1:35 p.m.

JakeHarlow says... #24

Fair point. I really like the extra speed of Extraction, especially in the opening turns. It probably works better in a deck where you want to be topdecking ASAP, like hellbent or madness. I run both in my deck, but with the emphasis on Extraction.

I see you have mentioned topdecking later into a game. Have you considered something such as Dream Salvage to help fight against it?
