I Love Rakdos's Return! I agree!

Rakdos's Return is too slow for modern, especially for a deck like this that runs so few lands. I'm not really a fan of Bump in the Night, its just too overcosted for what it does. And neither of them really solves my issue, which is trying to find more choice discard besides just Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize.

yeah, Despise and Duress are the next best options obviously, I just figure that a one mana for 3 damage spell, like Bump in the Night is almost as good as a Lightning Bolt, and if you could possibly play it again later, than all the better? I dunno....What about running Magma Jet?? It helps dig for your discard spells, and can also deal with pesky stuff like Goblin Guide ?

What would I drop for Magma Jet though? I don't think it's better than anything I'm currently running.

Coukd try Blightning since its a deal 3 damage discard 2 and also consider that red gives you the most recrnt chandra acting as a free draw engine for you if you think the deck can handle her as 2 of. Maybe want to consider Distress as its two black and can remove anything Thoughtseize would

I'm already running 3 Blightning and I definitely think Blackmail is better than Distress.

Ever consider maybe Dash Hopes as a Waste Not replacement rather than Blackmail? Both options are great for 8Rack & it offers a traditional control angle.

I actually really like Blackmail because it's another spell that allows me to choose the discard, and it can also hit lands. I do like the idea of having a couple Dash Hopes, I'm just not sure what to take out. Possibly Wrench Mind? I'll have to play around with it.

@kmcree, I really like this, it's doing well I see. Any chance Blood Moon may fit in here, even in sideboard? You could grab your basics with fetches. Also, how does this fare against countermagic? Thanks!!

I originally had Blood Moon in the side in an earlier iteration of this deck. But now that its running 3 colors and there are so many non-basic lands, I just don't think it works anymore. It also wasn't all that helpful to be honest.

As far as counter magic, I really don't have that many problems. If someone counters my discard spells, that still effectively strips them of one card out of their hand. And I have enough removal to deal with the few threats that do make it to the board. My biggest issue is super aggressive decks like Affinity, and also decks that can refill their hand quickly, ike UWR control.

Nice Work On the Deck man! Bogle's and 8-Rack Are my 2 Modern Builds. I don't get to go to Tournaments much, butt when I do I want to be competitive. I have played my Bogle deck 2 times at a tournament, Went 4-0 the first time, 2-2 the other time. Played my 8-Rack once, and went 2-2, butt lost to my Own Bogle Deck Played by my Brother. I have been trying to find a way to make the Rack deck better, and you seem to be on the forefront of playtesting this archetype, so I follow your posts. I have talked my Brother into playing me a couple of times, me Bogle and him 8-rack, and I win most of the games, wish I could go to Tournaments more often for playtesting. Anywho....Just wanted to say, Keep up the good work!

Might want to check out this list that top 4'd an scg iq. It's not 8rack, but having played against it (guy who made ot plays at the same shop as me) it's card choices seem interesting and could provide some ideas for this deck as they have similar discard control schemes.

@kmcree, been playtesting this exact decklist online and it's doing pretty good! Doing a lot of winning and it's really fun to play with the right draws! I'm sure it's very frustrating to play against as well, which is exactly what I'm looking for. I think I'm physically going to build this deck! Also, what do you think of Black Sun's Zenith to sweep if need be?

December 16, 2014 11:58 p.m.

kmcree says... #23

Glad you're liking the list! I think Black Sun's Zenith is just a little too mana intensive for a deck like this with so few lands. In the physical list that I play at events, I've actually added a couple of Pyroclasms to the sideboard, as my meta is full of Delver. That seems to have worked out okay. But best of luck to you! Let me know how the list works for you!

Really happy to hear about the success of your build, especially your victories against Delver. Good job.
