Cloudius, your right about the effects they have, but it really isn't manipulation per say. More of a filter, I like Preordain more in a combo based setting as you have more control over the card draw and less of a mana investment. Having a preordain in your hand in the beginning on T1 than having Crystal Ball T1 hand. E-Tutor is just great overall :P

Alexmtgwowsuchmana Thanks for the compliments and glad you like the deck page. A +1 as sign of support would be appreciated too!

I'm excited over the next set as well, hopefully the deck gets some upgrades so am keeping fingers crossed.

Feel free to approach me if you started building this deck, I'd be happy to give you my inputs! Cheers.

hkhssweiss Agree. I'm with you that Preordain > Crystal Ball . Scry effects are filters most of the time, the only time they count as manipulation, is when the 2nd card is what you want and you "manipulate" it to the top. LOL

Lemme try out E. Tutor over C. Ball and let you know how it went. Cheers.

Great deck! Thank you for passing by on my deck. The power level of your deck is too high. My group can't handle with this.

Icenhard Thanks for the compliments.

Yes this is a dedicated combo deck that aims to win fast. It can certainly be tuned down to adjust to the power level of your group for sure.

If you're ever interested in making a similar deck that is more budget/toned down, I'll be happy to help. Cheers.

Yo Cloudius, since I posted on the thread earlier. I'll give ya some recommendations, have you ever considered using Mystic Remora or Rhystic Study and what are your thoughts on those? Or at the same time Necropotence and/or Search for Azcanta  Flip for more card advantage engines?

Cloudius says... #9

hkhssweiss What a coincidence! Our post had the same time stamp but I was a split second earlier than you I guess. LOL.

Thanks for the suggestions. IMHO, these enchantments, while awesome, work best when they stick around for a couple more turns and we accrue value/card advantage over time with them. It may not gel well with the central theme of this deck, which aims to combo off early and win from there.

BTW, I added a new section in my Primer titled "Chronicles of War" to capture salient points from interesting matches I had at the LGS recently. Feel free to check it out.

Let's hope the next guy comments on both our decks too. Fingers crossed

No problem, I'm a tad curious as my meta is highly competitive and since we have similar deck builds with my Intet and your Yennett I was wondering how yours would do in my type of games.

I did take a gander at the section and I like it! I like reading up on how people do on their games!

Reason why I would consider, is that even as fast as we spit out mana rocks and such there is tech cards like Seeds of Innocence , Meltdown , and By Force running pretty rampant. So my question actually is, how is your meta like?

March 17, 2019 9:45 a.m.

Cloudius says... #11

hkhssweiss my meta is more casual and there's a huge gap in terms of power level between the decks, across all my play groups. They range from tuned Narset, Enlightened Master , focused Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow , to precon decks with some upgrades.

Depending on the folks I meet and the decks they bring during our weekly gaming sessions, I don't always get to pilot my Yennett deck, as much as I wish to.

If you've checked out the other decks I build, you'd noticed that they're quite varied and would include fun and janky themes as well. This grants me the flexibility to adjust to the play groups' power level.

What about Dramatic Reversal to combo with the Isochron Scepter and Capture of Jingzhou as another extra turn card?

March 17, 2019 11:55 a.m.

Cloudius says... #13

Maizena Thanks for your suggestions.

I can easily generate infinite mana with Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal but I don't have that many mana sinks in the deck to benefit from it ( Goblin Charbelcher being my sole outlet).

Capture of Jingzhou is already in my Maybeboard and the only reason why I've yet to include it in the deck is it's cost. Am searching high and low for a reasonably priced Judge Promo Capture though. Wish me luck!

More suggestions and ideas are certainly welcomed, or leave an upvote if you will. Thanks again!

Ahhh I see! Thanks for the response Cloudius, that's understandable, I am currently trying to find an evenly scaled deck. SO far my Akiri/Tymna deck is matching that theme right now as I don't always play all my decks as of yet, however I am going to be taking apart my Zur soon, once I get the time too.

Some very nice cards I am gonna incoporate into my own Yennett deck and an overall good read.

Dicebag Glad you like the deck and find the primer useful. Feel free to link up with me hereafter so we can trade pointers and discuss card choices. Always happy to do that with a fellow Yennett player! Cheers.

I suggest Grozoth to tutor all your 9-cmc cards, and if you are looking for more cards to put your hand on top of your library, maybe add an Aminatou, the Fateshifter . Some more 9-cmc cards to get with Grozoth are Heroes Remembered , Clone Wars, and Sphinx of the Steel Wind . For some reason, I've always liked the Thopter Assembly / Time Sieve combo because infinite turns- whether or not you have to pay an upkeep cost of - is fine with me.

Cloudius says... #18

chromiumthemutable Thanks for your suggestions. They could be useful for generic Yennett decks but are not suitable for my deck for the following reasons:

1) This is a creatureless deck, and being creatureless is a key component of my combo. So running Grozoth , Thopter Assembly or any other creatures for that matter, is certainly not within my considerations.

2) I'm currently only running one 9 CMC spell in the deck (i.e. Expropriate ) and in order to synergize with Yennett's ability, we would want to tutor/manipulate the card to the top of the library, and not tutor into my hand.

3) The 9 CMC cards you suggested are fun cards but don't fit the theme of the deck. Sphinx of the Steel Wind is 8 CMC though.

I invite you to go through my Primer to gain a better understanding of the deck concept. I'd love to hear your suggestions thereafter! Looking forward to them. Cheers!

Seeing as you have black and don't seem to care about your graveyard, maybe a Necropotence to dig deep and win early? I'd also suggest an Ad Nauseam if you ever get your curve down

March 23, 2019 6:14 p.m.

Cloudius says... #20

S1ayerMonkey Thank you for your suggestions and upvote.

Necropotence is an awesome card but it's casting cost of will be difficult to fulfill consistently, especially during early game in a 3 color deck, for it to make an impact.

Ad Nauseam - I categorize this card as a "Card Draw" effect, and I'm currently running a very lean draw package in the deck. I'd favor top of library manipulation or tutor effects over this card as they've greater synergy with what I'm trying to do with Yennett here.

Feel free to keep the suggestions flowing and do check out the rest of my decks too! Cheers.

Hi Cloudius,

Wonderfully constructed deck! We can't see ourselves building it though, as we always play with the same group of people and we cannot see them appreciating the use of it very much. Also, we would probably get bored if we always win (in the same way) :)

Have you considered using Mox Opal in your deck as well; you seem to have plenty of artifacts to make it worthwhile.

Regards,

Mrs. and Mr. NV_1980

NV_1980 Thanks for the compliments.

I don't currently own a Mox Opal which explains its exclusion from the deck/maybeboard. While I do run a good number of artifacts, the Metalcraft is another hoop I need to jump through before I gain access to the mana, making it less ideal compared to the rest of the artifacts.
