Workhorse I just realized, too, that I totally need to add Storm Herd to my Too Many Cooks deck. Thanks for bringing that card to my attention!

Workhorse: Ordered a Scroll Rack to replace Avarice Amulet as it's infinitely better. I've been wanting a Scroll Rack forever, and I decided this is probably my first deck that's worth that kind of investment (I should note, by the way, that my Avacyn is foil--pulled it from a pack, so it seemed like divine providence that this deck had to be made, and had to be made well.)

Hey mate, what about adding Pariah and removing Defang?

Great deck +1 for it tho :)

Saitam Rather than run Pariah I am using creatures that have the same effect: Palisade Giant, Weathered Bodyguards, and Veteran Bodyguard. Defang is in here mainly because I regularly play against a Purphoros goblin deck. Glad you like the deck!

No, copy away! And I'll check out your Griselbrand deck. I don't do much duel commander so I don't know how helpful I'll be, but I'll take a look!

Griselbrand is banned in EDH

December 28, 2014 3:09 a.m.

NoSoyYucateco says... #10

It's a duel EDH deck using the French ban list, JohnnyCrass, so Griselbrand is legal.

A few suggestions to keep you from being attacked are Blazing Archon and Peacekeeper. The nice part about Peacekeeper is you just pay the upkeep until you have Avacyn and a board wipe, then go to town on the table. Glacial Chasm can also work in a similar manner.

White is horrible at card advantage, and Mind's Eye has been an all-star for me. Well of Lost Dreams also works well for extra draw when you're gaining a bunch of life. Speaking of life gain, another nice enabler is Angelic Skirmisher, plus she goes along with the angel theme.

A few cards for your equipment interactions are Stoneforge Mystic and Pariah's Shield. The shield on Avacyn basically give the whole table the middle finger until they can deal with it. Maybe even a Batterskull since it does with the equipment and lifegain themes.

One last card I've been thinking of running is Door of Destinies. If it gets out early, Avacyn could be swinging for 11 or more by the time she can attack, and cutting her clock from 3 to 2 turns is SCARY.

Overall I like the pillot fort theme with Avacyn, my deck started out in that direction and it was a ton of fun. Keep

Didn't finish my sentence. Anyway, keep up the good work, I love decks that say "nope" to people!

Thanks for taking a look! Most of what you've suggested I have either considered or was in here and then got taken out, like Angelic Skirmisher. She's such an awesome card, but I took her out to lower the mana curve a bit. But now that I'm looking at the deck, I'm realizing that I can probably do better than Shattered Angel, and Skirmisher would definitely put in more work for that slot.

Pariah's Shield is great, but I am already running Weathered Bodyguards, Veteran Bodyguard, and Palisade Giant, which offer more value for the mana in this build, I think.

I have thought long and hard about Door of Destinies. I really like the idea of it. In the past I have used it in other decks, and I find that it tends to be a major removal target. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I may rethink my judgment on running it. Though, since commander damage is my win con here, I think just sticking Batterskull in would be a more efficient route to getting Avacyn to her turn 2 clock. It's too bad I sold my foil one a few months ago!

I have run Mind's Eye and Well of Lost Dreams in other decks, like my Oloro one, but I find it tends to be annoying to pay for the draw at the beginning of a turn, even on the last turn before mine, when I have to keep mana open for things like Swords to Plowshares and Faith's Shield. I love it when I can get my tax rack in play, but that of course doesn't happen every game. Of the two, I think Mind's Eye would be a bit more consistent in here.

About Peacekeeper: I use him in my Oloro deck, which is super pillow fort, to the point of being trollish (Peacekeeper + Dovescape FTW!) I probably wouldn't put him in here because I don't like cards that prevent other people from playing their decks. I prefer them to play their decks against each other while I sit back and prepare an insane late-game board presence.

FeralKitten: Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and swap Shattered Angel for Angelic Skirmisher for now. Thanks for helping me clear up my thinking on that one.

I get you on Pariah's Shield. The main reason I like it over other methods is that it's tutorable and useful on utility creatures like Kor Cartographer or Solemn Simulacrum to take some big hits when Avacyn isn't around.

Batterskull will be great for your deck, and for mine :)

Mind's Eye is definitely more consistent of the two, and so much better as you add players to the game. There have been several times I was running some Blue deck and was jealous of the Avacyn deck with an overflowing hand. I would happily sacrifice saving Avacyn for several extra cards in my hand, but not everyone plays that way.

I also understand about Peacekeeper. I don't run him in my Avacyn deck, but he's a beast in Karador and I could see him playing a role in your deck for setting up an alpha strike or buying everyone time to deal with a threat if you want to play politics.

And don't even get me started on Angelic Skirmisher. I've cut that card several times, and it just keeps finding its way back in the deck because it's so good. I mean, giving your creatures vigilance on your turn, then first strike or lifelink off turn is crazy good for warding off attackers.

FeralKitten: That's true, about the political aspect of Peacekeeper. I will have to think about putting him in here. Last game I played with this deck, a dude kicked Rite of Replication on a Kalonian Hydra, and I saved the day with a Dawn Charm. Made a lot of allies in that game. I didn't end up winning, but neither did Kalonian boy.

By the way dude i guess Orim's chant with isochrone Scepter will donate massively on this deck..iscocrone also would be a massive slap with disenchant towards enemy artifact mana gainers...hehehe

oh and dont forget "Silence" by the way. __-

NoSoyYucateco says... #20

In my experience, Isochron Scepter never stays on the board for very long in EDH, unless it's in a really counter-heavy deck. I don't know that I'd have enough ways of protecting it to merit it a slot here.

I feel like Orim's Chant and Silence can be really useful cards if you draw/play them at the right time, or they can just buy you an extra go around the table against a player who is dominating (and maybe some allies), but they both have the potential to be major dead draws. I have thought about using them in here, but I am on the fence. If I were to, I would probably just add Orim's Chant.

I use a bunch of heavy angels like these in my red/white commander deck and Deathrender has been awesome in helping me put big guys on the field early game

A few noteworthy cards you should look at:

Karmic Justice: This thing is amazing. It's a low cmc, and will in all probability give you greater value than what it costs.

Mother of Runes: Never, NEVER underestimate this card. It's absolutely ridiculous if you get it out early. Nuts. I'm tired, sorry, so these explanations aren't gonna be great, but trust me on this.

Fiendslayer Paladin: Hey, you want an Akroma that drops on T1, and takes at least 2-3 more turns before anyone can actually -deal- with it? This is one of the most underused white cards in existence imo, and my playgroup has actually banned him from my deck due to what an overwhelming presence he makes. (sure, it's an eight-and-a-half tails voltron deck, but still...)

Luminarch Ascension is a bajillion times better than Entreat the Angels.

You could use some better wraths. Mass Calcify seems like a good pick here, and this is a deck that turns Armageddon into a win-button for you.

Academy Rector. Lookit dat sly smile. Dat silver fox. Man, you know she was a badass back in the day. Still is. I may be a little drunk. Shhhh.... Iduntellyouhowtoliveyourlife.

Worship: Heh. Heheheh. HEHEHEHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

also, if you wind up with a bunch of enchantments, Replenish.

Hope this helped! Nite man.

Great suggestions, muffin.pua and slovakattack.

I feel like Deathrender works best in a deck with a sac outlet. I tend to get enough ramp in here that I can get Avacyn out fairly early, and when she's out, Deathrender doesn't do a whole lot. I don't know that it's the best fit for this deck, though it wouldn't be bad tech against decks that would make me sac Avacyn. I'd just have to pray that I have a pretty badass creature in my hand to replace her.

slovakattack: These are all good, though I'm not an Armageddon player. It's just my EDH philosophy that mass land destruction is kind of a nasty tactic, though not everyone shares that philosophy, including potential opponents.

I think Luminarch Ascension might be good here (I use it in my Bruna deck, Brunettes Have More Fun,) though I think I might need more pillow fort to make it more consistent. Though once I have something like Palisade Giant on the board, getting it active is not going to be difficult.

Academy Rector could be a really lame late-game draw if I have Avacyn out. She has to die in order to benefit from her. I'm not denying that she's great, but she can have negative synergy with my commander.

I have a Worship that has been looking for a home. My only qualm with it is that it applies only to damage, and not life loss. Since life loss is the deck's weakness, I think Platinum Emperion would be a better choice in this build. That said, it's hard to go wrong with Worship.

Mass Calcify rocks in mono-white, though with Avacyn as your commander, the non-white caveat can be moot. Having Avacyn, Angel of Hope with Nevinyrral's Disk is already pretty much saying "Screw you guys, you get nothing".

You're not the first person to recommend Mother of Runes in here. I'll probably add her. Not sure why I haven't already.

I have a boros Angel tribal, and one of my favorite cards is Urza's Incubator - so that you can get Avacyn out on turn 5 or 6. Which is insane.

Anyways, I like the idea of a pillowfort, but I feel that if someone casts a Planar Cleansing before you get out Avacyn, then all of your creatures and enchantments won't make a difference. A turn 7 cleansing will give you no board state when Avacyn hits. Maybe try a Gods Willing or Ajani's Presence.

I deeply, deeply recommend Karmic Justice a second time. It keeps your mana rocks safe until you can get Avacyn out, and punishes your opponent heavily if they try to take them out. Also, perhaps Champion's Helm?
